If Pavlik was able to land his money shot on Williams he could possibly knock him out he obviously has more power than Martinez. But Martinez's style was what allowed him to land those shots on Williams. Pavlik would never land as many shots on Williams as Martinez did. Pavlik-Williams simply needs to happen next.

The match between Pavlik and Williams is very competitive and no one can say for sure what's going to happen. If Pavlik lands a big right Williams is going to dreamland. If Paul can avoid it he is going to out-work Pavlik.

    • i agree with you, but pavlik hits like a mule. It is possible to send williams to his knees and his power at this weight could be questionable

***** please. I went to the U in 19XX before transferring to Bethune Cookman, and came back for Law School.

And I ain't mad cause Williams barely won. That's more of a testament to how worthy of an opponent Martinez was, than to Williams being any less of a boxer. So I guess if Pav dominates the likes of Espino, you will be in here gloating about Pav beating on another bum.

That's like TomatoCan on TomatoCan crime what Pav has been committing lately.

Pavlik would never catch Williams. Martinez did because he's a fast, slick counterpuncher. Maybe if Kelly connected he could do some damage but there's no way his connect rate would be ANYTHING like Sergio's. Styles make fights.

Martinez caught Williams because Paul has yet to figure out how to defend over hand punches. The same punch that Quintana used in their first fight, and used up until he was hit big in their second fight, and the punch Martinez hit him with all night. The high hook/overhand punch lands every time and it would only be a matter of time before Pavilk figured out the same thing. Pavilk would KO Williams within 6-7 rounds. Martinez should have won that fight. He landed the cleaner more effective punches and the result of the fight was written all over Williams face.

That high overhand right was virtually (not totally) non-existant after the 8th or 9th round when fatigue began to set in for martinez. At that point, though, it was still coming in faster than pavlik woul have been able to throw it at any point in the fight. And Williams began to see it coming from a mile away.

And by the way, couple that with pav having to fight someone taller than him for a change.

Exactly, Pavlik would eat leather all day vs Paul Williams. It would be like Hopkins-Pavlik II, regardless if he was sick or had a temperature or whatever excuse he used that time.

However, I will say that Paul Williams should NEVER fight a slick 160 pounder. He got a gift for saturday's fight, that's for sure.

If Pavlik landed against Williams like Martinez did, it would be a short fight.

Maybe I should make my point more explicit.

    1. Pavlik is no slower than Margarito.
    2. Pavlik is much more accurate and technically solid than Margarito.
    3. Over Pavlik, Williams possesses none of the lopsided physical advantages that he did over Margarito.

Those 3 facts should be enough to convince you that Pavlik will land on Williams. Against a big Middleweight, the guy is about as hard to hit as a barn door.

It's not as if Williams is some sort of defensive genius. Margarito hit him pretty easily once he actually decided to start getting inside, and Margarito is no slickster. Williiams stands in front of an opponent, doesn't box and move and half the time wears his gloves around his waist. Reminds me of Jermain Taylor...

Williams get caught no matter who he fights... thats why I know he would lose to Pavlik... Against Pavlik, Defense and movement wins... not volume punching and size ( Pavlik would be the first equal sized opponent for williams )

Your dumb if you think Martinez was the only guy to be able to land flush on Williams
