Said he was open to fighting Ward. Also you must have missed how his next fight is against someone his own size (just like his previous one), or do only obscure Eastern Europeans count as people his own size?

 

What is Sergio thinking? Now what's he got? Drops the WBC title which may have netted him Chavez in the late summer/early fall and then thinks he's turning his back on HBO too? Does Lou Dibella know about any of this? Lou's probably in the ER right now from a heart attack. Showtime will pay him half the money HBO would, and their with Golden Boy now anyways. At 38, Sergio can't afford to make a Bernard Hopkins against the world type of stand. Hell, if he loses to Macklin this March he's going to have a lot less to show for it.

 

Gotta respect martinez, he knows how he wants to be treated and is giving it to them. He has done the workd and had a killer career upto date and now wants to be a super star with the rest of them.

 

If Sulaiman found a way to protect Chavez now, immediately after a mandatory declaration and on the heels of months of promises to Martinez, he'd have found a way to continue to do so. The HBO thing is somewhat ballsier if taken at face value. It could simply be a matter of HBO already having turned down the Macklin fight, or it could be that Martinez is sick of them too. Besides the Zbik fiasco and the fact that Dzinziruk was essentially forced on him, they also gave his summer date to someone who he had just knocked out. Showtime might offer less per fight, but they may also promise him the dates that HBO wouldn't.

Martinez is in a position where, despite not being the most popular guy in the States, he no longer has to play by the corrupt rules that run most of boxing, especially if there's no prize at the end. He has enough money saved up that he can probably afford to make a stand like this on principle alone.

 

Martinez is a great person outside the ring, he is annoying people with his chase for a bigmoney fight nowadays but im still a fan of him.
I hope he fights pirog and golovkin I want to see fights like that rather than barker.

 

Sergio can do whatever the **** he wants. He deserves it because he has earned it.

 

Whatever happened to people suing the WBC? Rocky nearly put them out of business last time. At any rate, Sergio virtually guaranteed that he'll never fight Chavez now. As for the HBO thing, the people in charge are changing in both places, Showtime's looking like it'll be more like HBO was and vice versa. I understand his frustration but think he may have damaged himself with these statements.

 

Yup, and let's see if he beats Macklin if he will continue to call out the Big 3 money makers (Floyd, Pac, Cotto)......who are on HBO. But he doesn't seem like he understands the business, so I would not be shocked if he tries to do that and has to be told they are not a part of this network.

 

He didn't categorically rule out ever going back to HBO, just as he didn't completely rule out ever fighting for the WBC again. Only said the Macklin fight won't be on the network.
