Glad Martinez gave up his belt, there are far too many belts and the WBC won't cash in on anymore of his fights. I am skeptical that Chavez would have faced Martinez anytime soon regardless of what they say.

Nothing wrong with Martinez looking towards Showtime with his fights if they can get the same money but HBO has been good to Martinez. He's been on their network for his last 7-8 fights and a few of them probaby shouldn't have been, but of course there might be behind the scene things going on that we aren't aware of.

I do think Showtime is more likely to put some of the other middleweights on than HBO has. There are some good middleweights out there that simply need a fight or two on HBO/Showtime to position themselves as options for Martnez. Outside of Chavez(who isn't fighting Martinez) and Andy Lee HBO isn't interested in many middleweights for Martinez to face, Showtime might be more interested in the 160 division.

Let some of them face each other and you've just established a threat to Martinez. HBO just doesn't seem overly interested in doing so, if we're lucky Showtime will try to match some of these guys up. Any combination of Pirog, Golovkin, Quillen, Lee, Geale, Proska, and a few more would make for good fights and the winners seen as a serious challenge for Martinez.

a brave move, but it will hurt his income. a fight against Junior was his chance for a big payday. But i understand his frustration and knows the wbc ****ers are waiting until he is 50 yrs old to grant him a fight against junior.
junior will continue been protected and soleiman will keep sucking his dick, and mexicans will keep buying his PPV BS cards..now they are saying his belt isnt on the line for his fight against veneno. He will remain the champ for as long as he wants.

    brave move..

What i really hope is that he comes to europe to fight the top contenders here. really some good fights possible.

Piroq, Golovkin, Sturm, Abraham, Proska, N'dan jikam, Macklin, Murray, Lee. I would love it if he cleans out the division the next two years and beat all these contenders in their backyard.

Even Pac fought on Showtime for those with bad memories...
I don't think it'll hurt him much. HBO has been good to him after knocking out PW. Before that though... They definitely treated him unfairly, or at least he had some unfair matches. Knocking out Cintron and that BS of a draw, The decision loss to PW in the 1st fight, thought he was in a robbery before the Cintron fight as well?
At any rate, he'll do just fine.

I understand he's pissed off at the wbc for lying to him but why be pissed at hbo when they have televised his fights and have hype him up as the 2nd best p4p fighter? All i got to say is chavez jr is a disgrace mexican for being a coward.

Sexy Sergio is the man. I am not suprised at all Chavez will not touch him. He would get hurt. I hope he does leave HBO. As long as they have those complete clown commentators especially Kellerman, showtime is where its at. Just don't fight Ward, man, he is WAY too big.

After defeating Pavlik to win the middleweight belt, Martinez was given an ultimatum to agree to pretty much all of Williams' demands (catchweight, ring entrances, etc.) or take a walk. After knocking Williams out, Martinez had his mandatory Zbik rejected as a suitable opponent for HBO and given an ultimatum to fight Dzinziruk or walk. Martinez takes the Dzinziruk fight, gets stripped, and mere weeks later, Zbik is approved by HBO as an opponent for Chavez Jr.

Very well put. The powers that be at least for now will try to give Martinez the other cheek, but the fans already know what's up and they can't be fooled. Martinez or any other worthy champion getting stripped and not losing the belts in the ring is absurd. It's one of the low points of boxing. I really, really hate that ****. I'm glad there's finally a champion that's not bowing down to demand after demand just so another unworthy fighter can benefit. It's admirable that a fighter is telling the crooked ass wbc hey enough is enough I'm not your puppet.
