How is Martinez high reward/legacy? He doesn't really have much of a fanbase and isn't particularly economically attractive. The most legacy enhancing thing for any of these guys is to win the Super Six and then beat the next best contender; Martinez is an unnecessary risk for achieving that goal. And for the case of Ward, Froch, and Johnson, all the calling out in the world isn't going to give Martinez a fight with any of them in the near future.

Geesh, even as far as call-outs go this is pretty damn mild. Beyond that, both of them have held a belt that Martinez himself was stripped of within the past year; this is the main thing that precipitated such talk in the first place. Martinez has never competed for a belt at 168, unlike Manny and Floyd at 154.

Also, the idea that Dzinziruk was a cherrypick is utterly laughable. Martinez wanted to fight Zbik, a true middleweight and his mandatory, or Lee, another true middleweight, but was forced into facing Dzinziruk by HBO. Quite frankly, Dzinziruk was a far higher quality opponent than either of those and would probably beat most of the other beltholders in the division. The two weighed the same amount the day before and Dzinziruk was only giving up two pounds on fight night, while enjoying a height advantage.

i think is less a requisite of greatness fighting "smaller guys" yeah when you put it as "you need to fight bigger guys to proove greatness" just by itself it doesn't seem too convincing without stronger details but he's not prooving squat by calling out smaller guys the matter how great they are, Because when we talk of advantages he is far ahead physically, and isn't a caveman coming at you with wild punches. he has speed and uses it to his advantage as well as height when he has it to advantage, and is also slick with it. there isn't any chance as well as the may and pac fight being possible too, i don't see it being made and from a point of view sergio looks like a wimp by calling them out... like i said its all about the $$$

The only way he may not proove his greatness by fighting these guys is because of what you mentioned, there all busy, but theres no doubt fighting the bigger guys is the true test and risk to take to proove his greatness. not may and pac "the smaller guys" i wouldn't be saying anything if he was a big JMW still in the 154lb division, but he's not hes onyly 5'10 but has a big build and fits easily into 160lb.

I was hoping to see nonito vs Vasquez jr but in vasquez first real test he prooved he had thousands of miles to learn. and ive been waiting for my boy Carlos Ivan Velasquez to fight but its about to be a year since he's fought and there saying they havn't been able to get him any fights. Velasquez can be a problem at featherweight.

i figure nonito will hit feather in the future.

Yes, calling out smaller guys proves nothing, just as calling out bigger guys proves nothing. Things are only proven in the ring. Additionally, the idea that moving up is the only way he can be great is a very silly contemporary view. Cleaning out a division is often more impressive than simply moving up to beat stiffs for trinkets.

lol yeah i dont see pac beating him either, but alot of people are claiming to see flaws and slips from manny vs mosley, i mean they have always been there, he's always been vaulnerale to a good counter puncher who matches his speed or close and moves along with him, ive'd always believe in beating a superior fighter by fighting the way they fight and marquez made the blue print to beating him really clear, what i have always said is fighters these days use there own styles reguardless they no longer make fights according to there opponent, they no longer study flaws and master a technique to capitalize, back in the day if duran was to meet pac or benitez was to meet him or leonard, or W. gomez... they would have simply responded by instinct there mind and studies would have told him from there gut what to do what to gtest and what to try, now a days fighters are like designed and programmed to do one thing and when there plans dont go there way there screwed. very little fighters now a days convert there styles according to there opponent, not while training i mean during a fight. sometimes the syle difference was too much but then again sometimes fighters instincts would get them to have there own moments in a fight.

I honestly think pacs slower performance vs mosley was due to that unnecesary muscled be built, if he gets in the shape he was for marg and before he'd get more aggressive and as quick as he was, but then again he's not getting younger and he may be slipping we dont know until he fights again but i think it was because of that muscle he build.

no doubt is more impressive but wheres the need to really call out guys 2 divisions under? unless its about money?? calling out bigger guys may proove nothing when the division above you is filled with bums, but is not, there are challenges there, and yeah i know theres no chance of the fights happening, but one thing i know is the skinnier kid standing up to the bigger bully is always prooving something in my book.

    Ah, no.

    He beat Cintron .

    Twice.

Once by KO and once by outboxing him.

    All in the same fight.

And yes he was stopped by Marg (hands of plaster) but not close to knocked out.

You sound like the *****s who bring up Pacs losses by KO when he was starting out.

Yes, money obviously plays a huge role in this, but it's not the only thing in play here. Again, Martinez himself was stripped in the last year of the very same belt that both Floyd and Manny won at 154. Beyond this, he's currently seen as the number 2 or 3 fighter in the world on most lists and he would like to be number 1. Even if you think it's somehow wrong for him to want to land those fights and even if you think it's less impressive for him to win, a match with Floyd or Manny is the single best way to move up on the list. If Martinez beats the winner of the Super Six, there is absolutely no guarantee that he would move up, as his overall resume would still lag behind. Beating the number 1 guy when you're number 2 is the most efficient way to become number 1.
