...so if he loses, then he won't retire? :huh

    What then? Rematch clause?

Sergio himself said that he'd fight Golovkin after Cotto. If he doesn't, that would still not be as bad as if he continued and fought someone else.

Golovkin would have KO'd Martinez when he made his U.S. debut in 2012.
Was 2012 this "prime" MArtinez that everyone always talks about?

Translation: If he has to fight Golovkin retire. If he can fight Alvarez then stick around.

Yeah I guess Sergio is realizing the downside of beating a guy like Cotto. Your name value goes way up and the top in the division want to fight and the fans want that fight. Everything is pointing to him avoiding Golov, him saying he'll retire along with pre-emptive excuses in saying he's not 100 training for Cotto. Wouldn't call him a ducker though, the clock was ticking on him ever since he managed to make a notable name for himself.

Good for Martinez. You've done enough at jmw and mw. GG, oh well. GG has to do it the old fashioned way and fight tough opponents, and not ex jmw's and inferior comp.

Sort of same situation regards Calzaghe vs Froch. I mean you can't expect Martinez to stay up there forever, his resume is 100x better than Golovkin, he beat who he had to beat, he's getting old and has a lot of injuries, how can you blame the man? I like Golovkin, but he hasn't fought nowhere the same level of opposition as Martinez has. Golovkin could beat Martinez now, but it's not the champions job to stay there and fight forever. He has been the middleweight king since he beat Pavlik imo, that is 4 years now. Let Golovkin fight the likes of: Geale, Sturm, Chavez Jr. & Quillin's even though they're ducking him
