Yeah, I always remember him saying he would be willing to go down to 154. I don't ever remember him saying he couldn't...

He has moved from 147 to 160 and has won a belt at jrMW and MW. How many divisions has Ward won in?

How much has Ward moved up?

Ward wouldn't even move up for Dawon so that Dawson could be Healthy.

If Sergio were to move up, he can forget about moving back down and getting the fights he wants. Why do that if you feel you have some years left and possible big money fights with Alvarez, Cotto, etc. at 154.

Andre Ward: Sergio Martinez Impressive but Too Small for Fight

Andre Ward and Sergio Martinez may be on opposite ends of the career spectrum, but both put on near virtuoso performances in their last fights. So it's natural for people to chatter about when they could step in the ring together.

For his part, Ward was very impressed with Martinez defeat of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on Saturday night, but he doesn't think a fight between the two is likely to happen.

"Martinez was very impressive. He put on a clinic until the 12th round where we almost had history happen," Ward told ***********.com's Ryan Burton.
"He did everything he said he was going to do," Ward stated.

Martinez, who suffered numerous injuries in the fight that will shelve him until next year, won by a wide unanimous decision. But he had to survive a brutal 12th round that nearly saw Chavez Jr. pull off one of the biggest shockers in boxing history.

Ward was equally, if not more dominant in his last fight, defeating world light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson by 10th round TKO. So what are the chances of a superfight between Ward and Martinez?
Not great if you ask Andre.

Going up and down in weight is always a tricky situation in boxing. While the differences in weight classes may only look like a few pounds to non-fighters, it can have a severe impact when stepping into the ring.
Sergio Martinez is scheduled to have knee surgery next week in Madrid, Spain. There is no timetable for his return to boxing.

Andre Ward, on the other hand, has said he wants to take a few weeks off to rest and recharge before sitting down with his team and planning his next steps.

Look I wanted Ward to fight Dawson at LHW...Dawson was clearly weight drained...however this man has been calling out welterweights for years...he moved up from 147 begging Mayweather or Pacquiao to come meet him...why not come back down? who are you what do you bring to the top 2 fighters at that time...Martinez didn't want to move up one weight class...one!!!..I won't give him a pass...

Sergio should move down at 154 and take those big money fights i.e Cotto,Canelo and Floyd , period ! With Cotto and Canelo he can agree to fight at a cw , 158 pounds maybe .:yep
If a rematch with Jr will happen then is welcome !

Remind Me: Have Pac, Floyd, and Sergio won titles at jrMW ?

Do you have a right as a competitor to call out fighters that have Won Titles in the division(s) you have fought and are willing to fight in?

Sergio has said he would move back down to 154/jrMW if Big Fight$ are made available.

Pacquiao, Mayweather, Cotto, and Alvarez are all on that list of Big Money Fights.

Sergio has moved from 147 to 154. Won a title. Moved up to 160 and won a title. He didn't have to move to 160 but he wanted Pavlik and had maintained for a while that he was a true jrMW campaigning at MW. If that is as true now as it was then....I'm not sure. Only he knows if he can make 154 still after the time he has spent at MW.

Again, Ward didn't want to move up one weight class either but Sergio has moved up. One Man is a two division Champ; the other is not.

Martinez won't move up in weight, because he knows that he won't win. He feels that Mayweather and Pacquiao are both small guys that he can take advantage of due to him being much bigger than them. People won't criticize him for calling out little guys, because they hate Mayweather and they know that Martinez is the only guy that might have a shot at beating him. They'll take a Mayweather loss anyway they can get it.

That's where the money is at. If Ward was in Floyd's position in terms of popularity and PPV power, he'd be angling just as hard for that fight even though it'd be disastrous. But Ward is a nobody who won't leave his hometown. Pure money motivation.. Other than the 185 lb Chavez, the other names happen to be 154 lbers (Floyd, Canelo, Cotto, et al). There are some good fights amongst the top five at middleweight to take place from now to spring 2013 to determine who gets a shot at the Crown. He'll fight guys his own size and bigger when none of the above come to fruition.
