heres a quote form last link:

While some might feel that Clottey is too tough an opponent for Corrales’s welterweight debut, Wood emphatically disagrees. “I think he’s a very good fighter,” he said of Clottey, “but I don’t think he’s quite the superstar that in the last couple of weeks everyone has made him out to be.
“Everyone says: ‘Oh my God, did you see what he did with Margarito?’ I seen Margarito stand r

I think it was considered "welterweight debut" because it was closer to 147 than 154.

No offense to the SHO woman, but she is wrong. As i have shown the official WEIGH IN was 149 for BOTH fighters. None of the sanctioning bodies will sanction a WW fight at 149 (correct me if I am wrong).

That was a catchweight at 149. Call it WW or JrMW. It was nonetheless at 149 catchweight fight.

No welterweight consistently weighs 185lbs only 30 days prior to the weigh in. Simple as that.

It was announced as a welterweight special attraction by the announcer Jimmy Lennon I believe and showtime

just as Virgil Hill vs Roy Jones was announced as a light heavyweight fight by HBO even though they were over the limit

just as Cotto fought at lightweight at 137

this is not unusual and these so called sanctioning bodies are not sanctioning these fights and they are corrupt anyway at one point he IBF had a different limit to cruiser than the rest for example

also according to these frauds theres a HW minimum where as there is NO minimum limit to HW never was never will be:good

I got a question guys, what weight limit was this fight fought at :

1943-02-26 : Jake LaMotta 160¾ lbs lost to Sugar Ray Robinson 145 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

    ____

just reiterating that these "grazing the limit" in non title fights is nothing new, not at all. The above was a middleweight fight !!!

its not a catch and its not a new division

So he's a blown up WW who won't actually fight at WW, but wants the Welters to come up to him at MW, and he won't go up to SMW?

I understand you are trying to make a point that this is not unusual by using the RJJ and Cotto fight. That IS NOT what I am arguing about, thus moot.
I am arguing that this was a 149 catchweight fight. You can call it WW, Super WW, JrMW, whatever. Point is it is listed, contracted, weigh in and recorded as a 149 weight. If by convenience and simplification SHO decided to call it a WW fight - fine. But they are wrong technically. They are not irreproachable.

    Huh?

Catchweight is nothing more than an agreed upper limit that is not one of the recognized upper limit of a given weight class.

If you have a WW fight at 145, that is a catchweight. Yes it is a WW fight, but since WW is considered to be 140.1 to 147, it is considered a catchweight since it does not fully meet the upper limit of traditional WW fight.

Again, again I am unsure what the LaMotta fight has anything to do with the price of rice in China but the discussion is if 149 for the Clottey vs Corrales fight was a catchweight or not.
    It was a catchweight.

And if you consider that a WW fight, then Pac vs Margo can be considered a WW fight then since it was only 150?

ANYTHING over the middleweight limit is super middleweight. Actually, back then, it would be light heavyweight.

Grazing the limit is no excuse, really. If you go over 160, you're in the next weight division already, just that you're one of the smaller 175 lbers in that era.

EDIT: But here's where contracts are in effect or where commissions come in. They can skirt things like these even if the rules say otherwise.

but why is SRR Lamotta a MIDDLEWEIGHT FIGHT

why was corrales clottey a WELTERWEIGHT FIGHT

why was jones HILL a LIGHTHEAVYWEIGHT FIGHT

tell me why. were they all mistaken ? There was no pre nups to these fights the same way therre are if title fights are made at a different limit
