Burns has little chance in this fight he will have to fight from the outside and permanantly on the back foot ... Martinez is a pressure fighter and not sure Burns has the power to trouble martinez ... Martinez by late stoppage !
Burns wins via late stoppage. Stoppage ? Yes, Martinez getting reckless early on as he cant lay a glove on Burns will have him being countered at will then add to this the atmosphere on the night and the ref might possibly and maybe unjustly give a stoppage also. Ok ok, thats one scenario and theres many i know and aye, am being well biased but i tell ya one thing, its a lot closer than Mitchell/Kats and boy i remember the way some on the board were talking of a Mitchell win back then. Many are saying he (Martinez) is a few levels above and ok perhaps but am i not right in thinking, he has fought only once out of his native country ? September the 4th will not be anything like the Cook fight in regards to atmosphere for one. Burns should be applauded, just looking at the front page i am seeing quite a few posts regarding not stepping up given other fighters current situations yet Burns is taking this fight and has waited for quite some time. The Al Hamidi fight was merely a rust shaker and i also thought Warren had Burns on the undercard incase it goes tits up with Mitchell...which it did BUT i aint seeing Warren going nuts over this fight strangely. Maybe Warren learnt his lesson and is keeping it cool rather than going all out like he did with Mitchells promotion or he thinks like most that Burns is way out of his league. AND THE NEWWWWWWWWWW.............
I will cheer Burns on louder than most but I think he gets stopped around round 7. Best of luck to him and I really hope he brings the world title to Scotland and becomes another great British world champion. I would love to see Burns put on a masterclass in this.
I mean this sincerely - i've met a lot of boxers- Ricky Burns is the NICEST chap in boxing, proper good lad. Always dead friendly- i'd be so pleased if he won. Really.
marinez for me. like i think rob said, to bigger a step up to quick. good luck to burns tho, and u billy, really hope im wrong
I'm seriously thinking that burns can pull this off. He is going to have a huge support around him and the atmosphere at his fights is electric. Martinez is wide open for the jab and very square on, if ricky can jab and move i can see him getting the job done. He has to be at his absolute best. Think I'll put a wee 10er on him.
You have to make Martinez a strong, strong favourite in this fight. He's dangerous, he's attack minded, he's heavy handed, he keeps coming at you and he tries to drag you into his sort of fight regardless of your style. Ricky has never fought anyone like him. But Martinez aint no world beater and he is there to be beaten. He may be ranked the best in his division but it's a poor division for depth. I'd give Kirakoysan a chance against him in a right tear up. To my knowledge Martinez has never been in a fight where he's frustrated time and time again. And I don't think he's 100% disciplined if things were not to go his way and with a raucous crowd against him I think he could crack. This is the fight of Ricky's life obviously but this is not mission impossible. If Ricky jabs, moves, turns his opponent, stays off the ropes, not engage early on and frustrate his opponent he can do this. But that require 12 rounds of mental and physical stamina and level headedness. Martinez will keep coming until things don't go his way and then Ricky needs to stamp his authority. Jab from distance and move. Quick one-twos and out of there. Tie him up and frustrate him. All of this sounds good but it's another thing doing it. Elbows tucked, chin down and keep the head for 12 and box to a disciplined gameplan Ricky because you can do this no doubt.
I think Burns'll need the fight of his life man and have to show heart man because Martinez's power .The we Puerto Rican's on bxngscene think Martinez is taking it easy .I told one of them to give me his odds and he said my 300k to your 150 on Martinez .I would have settled for evens as well . Hopefully Burns man defintley routing for him all the way .Martinez says he's going to the body early man .I also read before he says that a post saying he'll do that and try and get Burns to lean forward for his uppercut .That left one he hit Cook with was a nice punch .I'm 50/50 .I think Burns has a decent chance and might win if he's fired up enough .See it similar to Dunne Poon .Don't think Burns should stand and trade with Martinez like Cook as well .Out Martinez's last 8 fights he's got 6 stoppages 3 clean ko's man .I read his power is underrated. Martinez is my pick, via middle/late rounds stopage. He's a solid if unspectacular boxer at world level, and probably won't hold onto his belt for that long, but he'll have enough to take out Burns in this fight IMO.
