    Knuckleup--

Your are mistaken on the facts. Let's go down memory lane. During the initial negotiations, Mayweather conceded to all of Pacquiao's demands -- i.e., purse; gloves; ringsize; including penalties for not meeting the weight requirement for the bout. Mayweather, on the other hand, made one demand--i.e., random blood testing with no cut off. Pacquiao balked and in effort to compromise, Mayweather counteroffered random testing with a 14 day cut off. Pacquiao rejected May's counteroffer and insisted on 21-30 day cutoff. May rejected this and fought Mosely instead. During the second negotiations, May insisted on random testing with NO cutoff. Pacquiao NEVER agreed to this--hence, no agreement was reached. Despite PAC not agreeing to Floyd's demands, there remains a disagreement over which body will be responsible for the tests.

Either way, PAC has not agreed to testing with no cut off; which is not an unreasonable request by May. If Mosely, Ortiz did it, and apparently Amir Khan and Sergio Martinez are willing to do it, why can't Pacquiao do it? IMO, a boxer has the right to insist on such testing to ensure the playing field is even. When a boxer steps on the ring, he puts his life on the line. To otherwise refuse to submit to random testing raises eyebrows and suspicions that a fighter is less than forthright.

No, Beating the #1 ranked welterweight will NOT do more for Mayweather's legacy than beating the Lineal Champion at Middleweight.

Take Pacquiao's nuts out of your mouth. Beating the middleweight champion would be a huge accomplishment, and yes, would be better than beating Pacquiao.

I'm not so sure about that. Many would argue that Sugar Ray Leonard's best win was either against Duran or Hearns at WW, and not Hagler. This is a debateable issue despite the fact that Hagler is a legend himself and beat Hearns and Duran. Martinez probably won't go down as a legend and has never fought Pacquiao. At the end of the day, Martinez might be the bigger challenge, but Pacquiao is the greater fighter. It may sound weird, but the greatness of a fighter often trumps the degree of difficulty when it comes to legacy.

Very true, the hard core fans of today would be the only ones who really would appreciate it. But as time goes on and new fans enter who never really followed Martinez. It will lose its value.

SRL didn't start his career as a featherweight either. I think many consider the Hagler victory as a defining win for SRL.

In fact, here is a good history question: Anybody from the featherweight division that has won even a piece of the middleweight title? I think that would be a pretty amazing accomplishment along the lines of going from Middle to Heavy.

Lineal Middleweight Title > #1 Ranked Welterweight. I don't care that it's Pacquiao. Martinez is the more dangerous fight. Your entire argument is fighting a guy on name recognition.

If Floyd fights Martinez and wins, that leaves Pacquiao and his team looking pretty stupid. In fact, it will prove once and for all that Team Pacquiao (Bob Arum) have been ducking Mayweather the entire time. Which is the truth and it's pretty obvious to see that Arum doesn't want Pacquiao to fight Mayweather.

Neither did Mayweather. Furthermore, Pacquiao started out at 108 and won a JMW title(albeit for a vacant title fought at a catchweight). People look at Pacquiao as a combination of Henry Armstrong and Roberto Duran. A guy like Pacquiao doesn't come along very often. Right now he's at, or slightly past, his peak. A win over him right now at WW is huge. A win over Martinez(especially at a weight lower than 160) would be big as well, but might not carry the same weight as a win over Pacquiao. You also have to consider that the size of the event needs to be considered as well. Mayweather/Pacquiao could be one of those events like Ali/Fraizer, Ali/Foreman, Leonard/Duran; one of those huge events that's remembered for decades.

Super-featherweight, you know what I mean.

He can't fight Pacquiao because Bob Arum won't allow it. The fight will happen when Arum decides he wants it, and not a second sooner. So why wait? Martinez is able and willing to fight, and the middleweight strap is a huge legacy boost. One of the most prestigious weight classes in boxing. Sure the "event" would be bigger for Pacquiao, but realistically Martinez is the larger risk.

Fighting and beating Martinez puts pressure on Arum to get the fight made with Pacquiao as well. All the "Mayweather is ducking" nonsense will be hard to sell after Mayweather fights a bigger and more dangerous opponent.

That's if this rumor is even remotely true of course. There will never be a Pacquiao fight until Bob Arum gives Manny the ok. Everybody knows Bob Arum owns Pacquiao, and that Manny is not in charge of his own career. That's Uncle Bob's territory.
