Ok finally a serious matchup. Vargas in his prime was alot quicker and more fluid then Pavlik, but Martinez speed would still win him rounds. Who wins?

Prime Vargas 154lb before Tito gives any fighter a tough time. I still think he could of gotten to that higher lever very close to Oscar's and Shane's level and become a smarter fighter, but going in against a lion like HOF fighter Tito was done too early in Fernando's career and instead of fighting smart he'd get engaged in brawls and fought with his heart.

I don't think Sergio had the power a prime Tito had at 154, but he was very close and alot faster and aside from that, just the current version of Sergio is so awkward, so fast, and most of all a southpaw. This would be a hard pick, but I can't disregard the way a prime Fernando would box so fundamentally well and threw combos very well. He did everything very well, but was never great. I'd say prime for prime Sergio by a decision. He drops Fernando in the early rounds, Vargas wins the middle rounds and does some body work, but Sergio is never the one to engage in battles and clinches when he has to which is very intelligent. Martinez UD12 Vargas. Martinez vs. Wright, Norris, Trinidad, Mosley, Oscar would of been interesting.

Vargas, would crunch him,Vargas was crunching Tito before all the cheating and lowblows,Vargas would have ko'd Trinidad,Martinez would be in for a beating,Vargas would have been a ATG,but they rushed him.

Ahhh. I like this one. Vargas was my dude before and after Tito. He had good power solid fundementals and that mexi-Cali gangsta attitude. Martinez could confuse a young Vargas. But if you look at his fights you will notice no one was ever slick enough not to get hit with his power. I like Vargas by ud or late stoppage. By the way. Xplosive, darth. Killa avatars.

i love vargas first title defense over the ultimate tomato can howard clarke

going in to his world title shot, Clarke had won 1 fight out of 6......... and would go on to LOSE 44 fights out of his next 46!!!

name 1 good win vargas had at 154?? a total of 26 wins for his career...vargas was a good fighter, but overated....he lost every big fight he had...

    Ike Quartey?
    Raul Marquez?
    Javier Castillejo?
Winky Wright? (i dont give a **** who thinks vargas lost, every fighter has close fights, MOST not against fighters the level of wright (before vargas even had 20 pro fights), this one was vargas's, fact is he got the w)

Out of all the names on Vargas's resume, bringing up Clarke is bizarre.

This would be a good back and forth fight between two world class boxer/punchers.... Vargas with a little more strength, Martinez with more speed.

I think this would be a tough, brutal fight for both guys. Vargas didnt like speed, and Martinez does posses his fair share. He would def get his shots in on vargas, and to be honest i think Vargas will def feel martinez's shots as i think Martinez's power is def a factor as well.

Vargas on the other hand will be cutting off the ring effectively and pressing Martinez with solid straight right hands and left hooks to both the head and body, and adapting however need be to most effectively combat Martinez within the ring, and i think Vargas's heavy hands would find their mark and start wearing Martinez down a bit from 7-10th rounds, but i think Martinez is conditioned enough, and tough enough, to withstand it, with both of them giving their all in the championship rounds in a FOTY fight with Vargas getting a SD due to his aggresive style and nicking a few rounds in which Martinez did a bit too much showboating instead of solid work while Feroz has his nose to the grindestone.

Tough fight IMO and very winnable for both fighters.

    just IMO
