apologies, your right four years a pro. i thought he went pro straight after athens. regarding EU title holder- belghecham was the EU champ when he fought lee and i understood that lee took the title that night.

in fairness to macklin- i genuinely believe he is actively looking for a world title shot. from memory he even vacated the european title to concentrate on a world title shot. 9 years is a long time to be a pro but he did turn pro very young and did fight decent opposition. the two defeats probably set him back a bit and the broken nose this year didn't help matters either.

barker has had a softer ride, i think they are protecting him a small bit. have you seen the press conference for macklin-barker? quite interesting viewing- barker didn't look or sound like somone who expected to win

"if i'm too understand your arguement correctly- a fighter should never take a fight againt a better opponent as he may loose???"

I thought my points were pretty clear in my post.

I'll break it down simply. There should be a natural progression in a fighters opponents. But advocating that someone should be jumping from the likes of Troy Lowry and Michael Walker to the number one rated fighter in the division is plain and simply dumb.

Lee is fighting Daniel Urbanski in Germany in a couple of weeks and I think that that is a great fight for him and his hardest yet.

thats a fair point but if your trainer is going around saying that you'll fight kelly pavlic tomorrow and that you'll be fighting for a world title by the end of 2008 you cantthen fast forward to 2010/2011 and not avail of the opportunity to fight the divisions best for a world title.

there must have been some method in him attending the williams-martinez fight and if manny thinks he's ready then i guess he's ready but i agree that his calibre of opponents to date would suggest otherwise

People say a lot of things to gain attention for their fight. Not all of it is always advisable either.

Maybe Lee etc had the flights booked because he was a subsitute to replace either if they dropped out at late notice! :deal

quite possible, as a matter of interest is it the manner in which martinez beat williams that would make you very uneasy about lee fighting him?

i get the impression that a lot of irish fight fans wouldn't have been as worried about lee meeting martinez until they watched the williams fight...

Lee v Martinez won't happen next year. Di Bella has even gone on record saying Lee is nowhere near Martinez's radar. They want to fight top fighters and Lee has done diddly squat so far.

Margarito, Cotto, Cintron, Sturm, Pirog all have a better chance of fighting Martinez.

I wonder if a decent KO of Vera would make people sit up and take notice :think

I think the real reason why Lee has a chance is because noboby will want to fight martinez since his ko of PW. Obviously Martinez only wants the big fights but who will fight him!

I'd say Pirog and Cotto would have no qualms about stepping into the ring with him. When has Cotto shied away from a tough challenge.

Is Lee still with Stewart? you wouldnt guess it seeing as how his publicity has disappeared and his career has slowed to a crawl.

have him fight duddy for fun, then two notable fights, then a real big step up

oh, and a vera rematch just to get the blemish off his record. although I dont reckon thats completely necessary seeing as we all know who the better fighter is.

Lee has lots of potential, but he is not ready for Martinez.

    Pirog >>>>

Would probably get beaten by Martinez like most others who are in contention for the fight, but I love his style

Pirog v Lee would be a decent match up imo. Pirog wins though
