Martinez vs Angulo: HBO Balks, Demand Paul Williams

Good assessment. He we go again. I hear Paul is demanding a 50/50 with the lineal champ. Sound familiar?

Do you understand that Martinez wants the rematch but Williams doesn't? What does Lou DiBella or Gary Shaw has to do with Dan Goossen not wanting the rematch without judge Pierre Benoist? Maravilla too has to pay the bills so he can't wait to see whether Godot shows up, he has to look for someone.

Martinez-Angulo is HBO worthy, but don't be surprised to see something like Williams-Mundine getting it's spot. The only "shady promoter" HBO has to put the pressure on is Dan Goossen. Punishing someone for someone else's lack of balls is just ridiculous.

Godot will come before Williams takes this fight on reasonable terms. Maybe Goosen is filling him with the "other guy is making $10 million" crap again?

 

I understand Bone. I get the impression that Williams doesnt want Martinez. That doesnt matter. Everybody has bills Bone and if HBO wants Williams-Martinez 2 don't think Williams has another option, he doesnt.

I also think Maravilla made the wrong choice on which division to stay at. On that note, now that he's made a decision he doesnt want to move down. I don't blame him. No more 154. Stay at 160

Martinez-Angulo isnt really HBO worthy either. I really like both fighters and I really don't want to see a one-sided domination, no matter how pretty it looks. Its a step down for Sergio. Sergio is now the Middleweight KING for ****sake. Angulo should'nt be mentioned in the same goddamn sentence. You know better foo:rasta

 

Agreed. Martinez would likely school Pero for 12 rounds but it's still a solid fight. Angulo can punch and could conceivably score a stoppage. HBO could do a whole lot worst than this match up.

 

If you just faced the World MW Champion, everyone else is a step down. Williams is the fight we all wanna see, but you can't force him to take a fight he probably thinks he can't win while he already has a disputable W to sit on. Maravilla has to fight someone, and since he can fight in 2 divisions, anyone of either top5 is a lot better than not fighting at all.

If HBO wants to play promoter, at least they should do it shady: threaten Goossen to make Martinez-Angulo and not to give Williams a date, and Paul will sign in a heartbeat. But with HBO's decision on Martinez-Angulo, they are sending the message to Goossen that they can strongarm Maravilla, because the way things look, he doesn't have a choice.

 

Do you honesty even give Angulo a real chance?

 

Angulo has a chance to beat any 154-er, most he'd actually beat, some he probably wouldn't, but it doesn't change the fact that he's one of the top LMWs, and one of the top LMWs vs. natural LMW Martinez IS a legitimate fight no matter how you put it. Now if one of the top guys doesn't even stands a chance vs. Maravilla (which I'd never say), it only tells about the quality of Martinez, not the quality of the fight, because it's still the top facing the top.

Or put it this way: regardless of the chances, Angulo is the best fighter possible willing to face Maravilla. So what would you do in Martinez' place? Not take the fight... and not fight at all?

 

Angulo's last fight was a sloppy mess.

The guy in front of him decided to stand a trade and got stopped in a round.

Maravilla would never let the kid get started.

 

Actually, neither fighter has a problem with the rematch. It's the promoters who have the issue. We know Goosen doesn't want it right now, but neither does DiBella. DiBella would much rather see his guy in there with Angulo rather than Williams.

 

I have no interest in seeing Martinez box circles around Angulo for 12 rounds.

A Martinez/Williams rematch would be epic.

 

Exactly. Angulo was outboxed by Cintron and was getting outboxed by Julio until Julio folded under the pressure. Goosen and DiBella need to roll the dice and make it happen.
