Martinez vs Angulo: HBO Balks, Demand Paul Williams

DiBella would love to choose Williams over Angulo for 2 reasons: more money and sweet revenge. But as you know from reports, Goossen has so unrealistic demands, that Martinez would make more money in a smaller fight than facing Williams in a big one, which is ridiculous if you think about it. That is why HBO should put the pressure on Goossen's side, since they are the ones with the deal breaking demands. Of course HBO throwing in another 600k or so could also help, but one thing clearly doesn't: giving Martinez the red light when he just wants to fight. Anyone. Can you believe these are the same guys who gave Mosley-Mora green light? atsch

 

Well if Kermit Cintron boxed Angulo's ears off and exposed him as a decent fighter who can be beaten by a good boxer with speed and angles, what would Sergio do to "El Perro"?

The answer: Not pretty. Angulo is made to order for Sergio.

My question is why not Cintron vs Martinez? Cintron whooped Angulo and was at the very least holding his own against Paul Williams before that terrible decision.

I don't think Williams is a fraud... However, the Cintron fight would have told us a little more... Round 4 he was landing shots BUT he was getting knocked backwards with hard shots also.. Cintron was actually winning that round.. The question still looms... How can Williams handle a big puncher over a long period of time~??

I think that HBO wants to build Angulo a little more.... They know what Martinez could do to him.. BUT HBO has a point.. Williams-Martinez 2 is a fight FANS want to see again...

Clearly this isn't the fight DiBella wants for Martinez. HBO is forcing him into this. Thank me later.

HBO won't have Cintron back.

 

Martinez-Angulo's a good fight. Not as interesting as one with Williams (who I agree got the **** kicked out of him by Sergio), but good after beating Pavlik so decisively.

It would be exciting all the way till Martinez knocked out Angulo, but he might go down himself in the process. Angulo's nothing special, but he's fantastic value.

 

Martinez/Angulo is absurd, and Martinez vs 39 year old welterweight Shane Mosely was obscene.

Dan Goosen has to be dumb as a box of rocks. His fighter turned down a career high pay day with Pavlik, and now his fighter has a lock on the lineal middleweight crown, but Gossen wants to play paddy cake with PBF and Pac. ****ing ******.

 

In Rafael's latest update, it certainly looks like DiBella would want to make Martinez-Williams II, but as you'd guess, only under a deal that makes sense, and no such deal is on the table with Goossen's demands. Rafael wrote on Friday:

"With Paul Williams balking at an Oct. 2 rematch with Sergio Martinez -- unless he gets more than 50 percent of the money -- Lou DiBella, Martinez's promoter, is looking at alternatives for the middleweight champion in case Williams doesn't come around."

And that's it. Why would DiBella take less money in a bigger fight just because the Williams side think Paul is more marketable - which is hardly the case after the Cintron farce and Martinez' huge win over the World MW Champion in one of the biggest fights this year.

We'd all love to see Martinez-Williams II, but it takes two for a fist-fight, so HBO need to put the pressure on Goossen, and do it soon, because Rafael reports that Martinez-Angulo will be negotiated with Showtime. If HBO want the fights so bad, why don't they save the day and throw in about 600k more to the pot to persuade Williams' side to be reasonable at the table? And we'll have a fight.

 

This is what I do not understand about Goosen! How can he possibly suggest that PDub is the bigger draw. He absolutely has to know that his boy does not put asses in seats!

 

It isn't about the actual amount. It is the percentage. Been through this with the Pavlik/Williams negotiations where Goosen had Paul believing Kelly would make $10 million for the fight according to what NBA said.

 

Can I just ask when exactly Williams did something that allows him to make such crazy demands?

He beat Margarito by the slimmest of margins, beat an ancient Winky Wright yet somehow missed nearly 70% of 1,000 punches (the guys just flings his arms like Mr Tickle with less co-ordination), then got his ass utterly smacked by Martinez yet was given a gift.

Meanwhile, Martinez gets robbed twice against Cintron and Williams, makes no further excuses and takes on Pavlik, and takes him apart something like 9-3 and wins the lineal MW title.

Yeah, who's more deserving? **** Paul Williams and his overrated ass.

goosen and paul are both ******ed. they somehow expect paul to be this huge draw. well there's a reason that **** isnt happening. He doesn't truly dominate anyone. He moves around in weight classes. He's chasing a superfight with pac that will never ****ing happen.

i'm starting to seriously dislike pdub.

 

HBO can shut the **** up and let the promoters make the fights. Then they can agree to show it on TV or not. And they would be morons not to show Martinez - Angulo.
