In light of the vs Hagler threads, I figured this was the naturally progression. It is clear to anyone w/ half a brain that Prime Martinez would box circles around the crude slugger Hagler. Don't get me wrong I rate Hagler highly, but he clearly fought in a prehistoric period (I am not sure if there is any major footage of him that is readily available to the public....ESPN classic probably has it locked in a vault somewhere!), and without the benifit of modern nutrition and training it is doubtful he could go 4 or 5 rounds w/ martinez before getting winded and going into a shell and just survive the fight with a swollen face mode. Ayala would clearly destroy the faded hagler of that thread. Hagler never could really take a solid punch anyway and I shudder to think how displaced his jaw will be after Tony connects....Hagler can't run from him all night, and we all know sooner or later Tony will catch him!!!

So who wins my # 1 MW of all time Ayala vs my # 2 ATG MW Martinez...This is a deep division and they are WITHOUT DEBATE, the undisputed cream of the division. Does Martinez outbox him or does Tony catch him sooner or later and knock him to the moon???

    Thoughts?????

I think Martinez gets a UD win, although Tony would make it exciting the early part of the fight. An interesting fight would have been Tony Ayala of 1982 vs. Terry Norris of 1991.

Tony by KO in 7-9, his unrelenting pressure and power will ultimately be too much. The battered and bloodied Martinez won't be reminding Argentina of Monzon tonight!

Mm, as soon as Ayala gets a whiff of that hair spray, he'll be harder than a rock and all over that ass like Calzaghe on BHOP('s ass). I don't know who'll win, but Ayala will end the fight on top, while they're stuck together for about forty, forty-five minutes.

That is good! Unfortunately so many posters on here have an agenda or a clear bias for a certain fighter....I know that you are blinded by no such irrationality and that you are extremely impartial and that makes your post even that much more pertinant! Thanks again!!!!!

I know, I feel like Roy Scheider trying to convince the pigheaded townspeople of the presence of a dangerous shark. But their money-grubbing egos won't allow them to admit the truth, in spite of the overwhelming evidence.
