DarrenBarker82 Darren barker U lot are different class thanks for all your support iv gotta tough one so gonna need it but I'm extremely confident! #lloydhoneyghan From Barker's twitter. Come on Darren!!
No, a fast athletic southpaw with a fairly 'jazzy' output. Calzaghe ideally, if he can be coaxed into some sparring
This would be beyond freaky though. Barker got little pop at Euro level nevermind world level and his style is beyond awful when you're thinking of someone to beat Martinez.
I think its no lose as people said he wont be anymore ready after 2-3 or 20 or 30 more fights so might as well go for the top dog in the division and no doubt it will be a good payday and good exposure. Worst comes to worst he can fight Macklin in a big money crossroads bout for the Euro title and get right back in the middleweight mix if he wins.
:deal European styles are made for Martinez. Dzinzurik had a few successes against Martinez mind you. Even wobbled him for about a quarter of a second
this will be over within 6 rounds, barker may end up looking like woods did against roy jones jr. i said awhile back that barker and macklin would eventually fight but only when they both have losses on there records, looks like we'll be a step closer come 2012.
I'd give Barker a fair bit of credit if he took this fight actually, shows hes willing to take risks, especially when he could be in line for a title shot against one of the easier champions soon enough anyways. He wont make it beyond eight though, and it will be one-sided
You have to love the way this happened, worst of boxing is all the drama and politics, these guys just talk on twitter and is done in 2 days. Barker has a chance, he have a good punch, but Sergio should win.
He could spar with Martinez himself and he'll still have no answers on the night. While I commend Barler for taking the fight and the Hearns for yet again giving us some exciting match making (well, Ndou is at least a chance to fi ally get a gauge of some of Brooks attributes) and, for an easy one I'd say Sergio is entitled to it as long as he fights again before the end of the year. Hopefully someone else will haveade themselves a viable challenger by then, be it by Golovkin finally sparking Hassan (assuming he gets past Ouma, or maybe he just gets the shot anyway ;-)) Pirog having beating someone ranked in the top ten, or by Rubio and Chavez Jr slugging it out and Martinez forcing his hand as 'champion emeritus' patsch)
I like Barker a lot but he has no chance in this I'm afraid, I cannot think of one argument for him winning this.
