This is basically the way I saw the fight and why I thought that cotto was so successful. First of all Cotto used his size to his advantage, Martinez is used to throwing the shorter punches going upward and when faced a shorter fighter with shorter punches like Miguel, Martinez was just getting beat by shorter punches, it reminded me of Oscar De la Hoya vs Ricardo Mayorga even though the styles are different. Another glaring point I noticed is that cotto kept looking down at the feet of Martinez when coming in and if cotto's lead foot went inside the lead foot of Sergio's he would go to the body with right hooks and work his way and when ever the lead foot of cotto was outside's sergio's he would throw a left hook which sergio would just not see. On top of that while coming low another thing cotto did was using a lead straight right hand especially when sergio leaned in which he is used to since being the shorter fighter. Basically this was my assessment of the fight and if there is any other things you saw in the battle that gave cotto a tactical advantage in the fight feel free to post it.
By the way I just wanted to mention Martinez earned sooooooooo much respect for training hard and going in the ring and giving his best and making no excuses.
Cotto had a great win. I had Martinez pinned to win, and dominate. But.. I was expecting to see the Martinez that were use to seeing. Someone who moves, bounces on his feet, is light on his feet. There was none of that. Even before the first knock down. Huge props to Cotto, he never got over excited when going for the kill and was very smooth with his craft.
Cotto fought a cripple and managed to beat him, the old Martinez would have knocked him out. Void refused to even fight a crippled Martinez at 150.............Golovkin will knock Cotto out, but Cotto will not go near Golovkin..............
