Have heard that idea before, two weigh ins and im not a fan. i think fighters should just pick a weight and stick to it.
Hopefully Williams takes it and stays up at 54 or 60 rather than the crazy idea of getting down to 47 to fight Pacquiao/Mayweather. The likes of Cotto, Mosley, and both the above have had ages to fight him and haven't been all that fussed for doing so.... don't see that changing :yep
So the day before my birthday the promoters are kindly scheduling for me Froch v Abraham and Williams v Martinez 2? What nice chaps
Agreed. Williams needs to shusht about 147. It's never gonna happen. But he's more than good enough to clean up at 154 or 160 and would love to see him one day go up to 168.
Excellent news that the fight looks a go. Even better news that the lineal 160 title will be on the line if the fight happens at 160:deal. WTF is this? GTFOH you *******:bart. No warnings this time of your hiatus, no apologies, no nothing. The racist apple has certainly fallen very far from the Brit Fourm tree:-(.
I think Williams was too difficult a proposition at 147. Plus, he's the least accurate "p4p" fighter out there. His connect % is abysmal along with his movement. I don't see what he's (or Martinez for that matter, well except that he held the WBC LMW belt) done to deserve a shot at the lineal MW title.
I might get shot down for this and I have kept it a secret but I am a huge Williams fan. There, done.
What had Martinez done to deserve the shot at MW, other than hold the WBC belt, which normally gets an automatic shot if you change weight class? Williams doesn't deserve a shot at MW based on who he's fought.
I thought it was the WBO that had that rule? You can argue, quite rightly, that Martinez didn't deserve a shot at 160, but loads of fighters today don't deserve shots at the alphabet straps. Martinez got the fight on the back of the close fight with Williams; Pavlik said at the time if he couldn't get Williams, then the next logical fight was Martinez. It backfired big time. Williams will now get the shot as a result of the belts being a sidenote in the bigger picture: a rematch with Martinez.
Williams is great for boxing as he fights big fights and comes to fight. My only qualm is I wanted to see the Pavlik fight and now Cintron and Martinez rematches. One of those is being done so I can't complain at the moment.
