Martinez is the current lineal champ at middleweight and deservedly so. 3 years ago I Would have given him a good chance to outbox Golovkin, but that would be a big ask now. There would be no shame in him taking on the winner of Floyd\Alvarez. He would have a chance against either. He deserves credit for a solid carrear and is rightfully regarded amongst the current P4p elite.
Maravilla went to war TWICE with the same Williams that destroyed Quintana in 1 and gave terror to anyone 147-160. Floyd, Manny, NO ONE wanted a part of Williams. GGG is on the verge of being the best middleweight and start his own legacy, but at the time being the aging, injure prone Maravilla is still the best. He's a small middleweight taking on bigger men a megafight with either Canelo or Floyd is what boxing needs.
Sergio should have stayed at 154 since he's so puny. It's not like there weren't any good fights for him...he sure as hell wasn't getting ducked.
Smart move for Martinez, and for Floyd. FLoyd can go up to MW and have a much better shot against Sergio now than he would have about 3 or 4 years ago. I would've favored floyd back than against him, and I'd heavily favor him now against maravilla. If he could beat MArtinez for the lineal MW championship, he'll elevate himself towards the top of the mountain as far as being one of the true ATG's. Winning titles from 130-160 would be a VERY monumental achievement.
He was the underdog vs Williams and Pavlik. He beat both impressively. He was willing to fight Floyd and even Manny under their terms. They gave their exaggerated terms, when Sergio agreed, they chickened out.
Those are both winnable fights and good for his pocket and i have to laugh at the idiot who said sergio is the same size as froch and ward. Canelo/floyd, cotto and ggg the last fight, great way to end.
