this victory was more than expected. he was after all the clear favorite anyway. martinez fought a smaller guy who was also at least 2 levels in terms of class below him. he was supposed to dominate this guy and get him out of there and that's what he did.
He was on the ball all night long, seeing him reduce Sergyi Dzinziruk to nothing was amazing. With Dzinziruks amateur pedigree and overall pedigree, having him reduced to NOTHING was something I could never have envisioned. I always thought Dzinziruk would be a handful for anyone at 154-160lbs. I think Maravilla is just entirely in his own dimension, and you're gonna have to bring out another special phenomenom to beat him, one I don't think is available at 154-160 at the moment.
The guy is a bum. A prototypical Euro fighter that stands straight up like a robot, no chin, no punch but the jab. That guy was hyped up by HBO. Martinez belt wasn't even on the line, it was a safe fight for Martinez.
What were people saying before this bout? "Martinez will lose because has never fought such a good technical sound guy like Dzin!" "Martinez will win, but will look horrible doing it!" "Dzin's jab will give Martinez hell!" "Martinez will never KO Dzin, because he has very good defense" "Dzin is no Pavlik and Williams, he wont be there to be hit!" Come fight night, Sergio managed to get the KO and looked GOOD doing it! Maravilla is the truth! :deal
Those we the people that didn't know a damn thing about boxing. How you going to an A level fighter like Martinez with only a jab, as I said, first of all who in the hell is that guy, he is about as non-discript of an opponent that Martinez could have faced. After beating Pavlik and Williams, he went backwards in level of competition.
