Years from now, the shocking final round of the match will remain the most memorable recall of the whole event. It's already happening, hence why a rematch will probably take place

2020 - Scenario: Two friends who are boxing fans, Andy and Lee, are talking about classic matches

Andy: hey, remember that Chavez Jr-Martinez match of 2012?

Lee: yeah man, that argentinian was too damn fast, almost pitched a shutout! BUTChavez Jr almost stole the match in the end, Mariquilla Martinez was saved by the bell!

Andy: I think it's ¨Maravilla¨ Martinez, not ¨Mariquilla¨. Could be wrong though, I hardly remember him. But you're right, I have that last round in my TOP 10 MORE DRAMATIC FINAL ROUNDS OF ALL TIME. It was almost like Chavez Sr-Taylor all over again! Chavez Jr was a huge underdog that night but almost pulled the upset. A warrior for sure.

    ---------------------------

So that's how it's gonna be

Another reason of why Chavez won the event is:

Chavez has the moral victory oftruly beating his opponent in the last half minute, when he finally dared to let his hands go. TRULY beating, as in BEATING HIS ASS, not beating him on points like Sergio did.

50 seconds more and Sergio was a goner, and dont give me that ¨he recovered easily and fought back ¨crap. He was finished, helpless, just trying to survive after kissing the canvas two times and on his way to kiss it again, and you Sergio fangirls know it, you almost shat all over yourselves in that last round, dont deny it.

As Sergio was by end of the 12th... tired, hurt, dizzy, with a broken hand and a torn knee ligament because of the first fall, Maravilla would've gone nowhere except to the canvas again if the match was 1 round longer

In short, Chavez has the moral victory of BEATING HIS OPPONENT

while Martinez just outpointed his and survived an embarrassing defeat by the split of a hair

    That's why.....

No. I was rooting for Chavez, cause I thought he could mount a consistent offense and effectively use his size, which was his key to victory, but he was extremely disappointing.

He would've won the event if Sergio was truly saved by the bell, but Chavez didn't have the smarts to finish off Martinez or put him in the position where people truly questioned whether he would've made it another few seconds.

No one is going to be talking about JR in 2020. Unless your discussing ATGs and their spoiled useless children.

Laughable. This is like saying Kobe Bryant is not a good basketball player just because he missed a dunk. The 12th reminded me of the time when Morales switched to southpaw and traded with Pac. Sergio paid a price for trading with Chavez but he lost his lunch money, not his entire savings.
