Martinez did get badly hurt, he's not saying Chavez won a moral victory or anything but he was seriously rocked to his bones towards the end of the round, doesn't change the fact Maravilla beat the entitled kid up for eleven rounds, just tells you Jr inherited his dad's chin and deserved some credit for keeping going in his lumbering own way.

Again, Martinez from even the Murray fight would have stopped Cotto.

    Agreed.

He did very well for himself, especially given his late start in boxing, but him being ranked so highly p4p was just a reflection of the era/division he was in, as well as people overrating him.

    A good B, B+ fighter in a poor era.

Martinez wasnt a very big middleweight, remember he started his career down at 147. Pirogs only accomplishment was stopping a cancer patient ..... Martinez in his prime would have landed on him all night!

As far as golovkin goes its sad we never got to see this fight but thats the way she goes. Had Martinez not suffered those injuries he would have manned up and fought GGG.

Incredible fighter and highly under rated. was a fan since the Cintron/Williams fight and still am. VIVA LA MARAVILLA

Not having knees ended Martinez's career. The knees were injured badly after getting knocked down by JCC Jr in the 12th round of their fight.

Martinez's footwork was what made him a Middleweight Champion. Up until fighting JCC Jr, that footwork was there and he was able to effortlessly move around the ring, land combinations and move in-and-out. He couldn't do that anymore after hurting his knees vs JCC Jr.

Without his knees, he should have known he would be a sitting duck for Cotto. He must have known he was done heading into the Cotto fight.
