Marvellous Marvin Hagler Vs James Toney at Middleweight/Super Middleweight?

This. It would be a tricky fight for him but Marvin would win this one by decision by something like 7 - 5 in rounds.

 

I have to assume that Marvin kept it orthodox in these films without indulging in the folly of any switch hitting. I recall one of his earliest acting efforts was in Boogaloo Nights 1 - a performance he preferred to forget due to bad reviews that he felt were grossly unjust. He got another shot in the sequel and blew everyone away with a classic money shot. A p-star was born.

 

Don't forget he also co-starred with a decent group of others around that time too - "Peachy" Davis, "Sugar" Ray Seales, "Willie" "The Worm", Jesse "Bender", Lamont Lovelady and last but not least "Cyclone" Hart.

 

Be serious, Toney would be a punching bag for prime Hagler. Didn't punch hard enough to keep him off and didn't move well enough to outbix him.

I'm not sure I'd have bet money on Toney in a rematch with Tiberi.

So many boxers having already shot their load just hours before fighting - a different and tougher breed back then.

Rumour has it that just hours prior to facing Leonard, Hagler’s other work “schedule” was changed at the last minute (was savvy Ray involved?) forcing Hags to perform back to back “shoots” - (far more perilous than same day weigh ins) no one wonder Marv lacked due aggression and tired so badly during the fight.

 

Despite the depths of depravity that this has descended to, I shall never-the-less contribute my two veg - err, cents!

I agree with everyone that says Marvin at 160. It would be a really interesting mix of styles that has "decision" written all over it. Toney, to my mind, had the skills to give the Marvelous One all kinds of problems and it wouldn't be too much of a shock if he pulled it off. But when picturing the fight, I can definitely see Hagler's work-rate & mobility being the key factors, along with enough pop to discourage James from getting too brave. Hagler would be frustrated at times with James' rhythm & defensive quirkiness.

Hagler by close but clear UD over Toney in a great fight!

 

Oh and at 168, no idea lol. I think Hagler was great enough to come in at 160 and still win.
