Saw Hagler training in Provincetown at the very end of Cape Cod. Running in sand that was coming up to his knees....working his ass off in the gym. Met him several times. He was always so gracious to the fans. GREAT fighter...not an entertainer....but a fighter!!! He was one of the best...he will be missed. R.I.P. Champ!

In my opinion the greatest Middleweight in history. 1st time I saw him was his total destruction of
Alan Minter, and the insanity of the aftermath of that fight.
The ultimate warrior and self made man, wasn't a gifted prodigy like Roy Jones Jr.
But a creation of extreme hard work in gyms across North East America.
He didn't avoid the Philadelphia fighters as many of the up and coming fighters
did, actually going into Philly itself on many occasions fighting the best
    talent available.
Hagler could do it all in a boxing ring, many make the mistake of labeling
him as a go forward brawler type (They probably saw his fights against Hearns
and Mugabi only) but at his best, he was a aggressive switch hitting counter
puncher, with a ability to switch stances so seamlessly it was hard to detect
watching it from the audience or on tv. (Imagine what the opponents must
have gone through, since they were the ones getting punched in the face from so
    many different and unpredictable angles)
I haven't seen a Middleweight in history I would pick against him at his absolute
    best.
Hagler is the epitome of what hard work and dedication can accomplish.
    Rest in peace champ.

    All lineal champions are immoral.

A hundred years from now, a person will be tracing the lineage of the middleweight title from Nonpareil Jack Dempsey, to whoever the incumbent is then, and they will se the name of Marvin Hagler.

Of course in his case, it will quickly become obvious, that he is much more significant than most of the other names on the list!

Great skills, brutal when needed, terrific jab. A warrior. I've had him varying between two and three points ahead of Leonard each time I watched that match up. He definitely won that fight imo. My favorite non-heavy.

I am still stunned at the awful news. It goes without saying that he was one of the greatest to ever lace them up. I spoke with him less than two years ago at the IBHOF weekend, and he looked in excellent condition. I can't imagine what could have happened to him. R.I.P., Legend!

I am very saddened to hear the news.

Ever since my youth, I have viewed Marvelous Marvin Hagler as the archetype of a 'complete boxer' - a paragon of excellence in the sport.

Hagler's Greatness was forged from the fires of hard graft and experience. He is a true boxing icon, for all time.

    Rest In Peace, Marvin.

I think it's a surreal day for many.
Marvin was an ironman, you know? He could take a bazooka to the chin and would barely blink. He seemed indestructible. I can't believe he's gone.

Like many here, he was a childhood hero of mine. He embodied everything we wanted our heroes and champions to be.
Hard as nails, but by all accounts, a blue collar gentleman.
    He'll never be forgotten.

This one bothers me a lot. When you're young and Impressionable, the figures present at that time leave indelible marks.

Being a student of history, I gravitated to fighters of the past to anchor myself and fire the passions. Hagler, I figured, was the one active guy in that sea of blah newness that harkened back to previous eras. It's like he wasn't a man of his times. In a good way. He just exuded professionalism, toughness, and monkish resolution to his craft and that resonated enormously with me because that's how I felt.

Everyone who was a boxing fan then lost something irreplaceable yesterday. Melodramatic as it may seem we lost a living piece of our own history, relegated now to the list of those who can no longer be anything but still pictures to us.

Great thread and great posts all round.

They all mirror my general sentiments.

Hagler, what a great man, what a great fighter. One of a kind

His wife said natural causes but honestly no one knows. Facts will come out sooner or later though. Hope she’s doing okay.
