Nice leaping straight left by Hagler. What an asswhooping. No way 1080p though. But good upscale. Just looked at this dude's record... Serious contender Hagler? Are you serious? This dude's record was nothing. Look at who this guy was fighting and all of a sudden they put him against Hagler? Who was managing this poor man? This is what I say when people have rose tinted glasses sometimes about old timers. Imagine a champion today fighting a dude of that caliber. He'd get roasted.
Hagler was so swift and quick on his feet during his prime. Caveman Lee was involved in an awesome fight against John LoCicero in the early 1980s. That's a fun one to check out.
At the time it was an interesting fight because of the war Lee had gone through with John LoCicero, and the fact Lee could whack and also he was from Kronk so this could be used as a measuring yard as far as to how the better Thomas Hearns could do with Hagler. In that sense it must have been a must see war for whoever watched it (I was ten, unaware and probably listening to my Menudo or Beatles albums lol) I think people hoped to see another war but doubt anyone put their money on Lee to win. That said, welcome to the "first round world championship contest knockout winners club, Mr. Hagler!" it was a beautiful beat down by, dare I actually say, a handsome (not Ali or Leonard-handsome but still) Black man.
I think they were working towards a Hearns fight already. Steward fixed for his kronk fighter goodwin to fight Hagler but he was injured and got replaced with yhis caveman lee who was also a kronk fighter. Also that was an occasional soft touch if you look at Haglers record. The guys he fought before and after were mostly very good fighters. I think we can compare it to Canelo beating up that Turkish guy in between fights. I forgive boxers for it if they are very active. Ali also had these soft touches in the 70's. In that refard people would give Fury a pass as well for his chisora fights or favoured ngannou fights if he was active and fought the likes of AJ, Usyk and Joyce as well.
