the 168lb division came about at the end of haglers reign, he was also a short fighter, I dont think he wouldve carried an extra 15lbs well.

Also it took him ages to get his title at middleweight, why give it up, if the biggest paydays are Heanrs, Leonard and Duran...?

Your answer makes sense to me bro...I heard he had his title shot when his record was in 30 plus

IBF 168 first fought in 1984, Murray Sutherland defeated Ernie Singletary.
WBA 168 first fought in 1987, Chong Pal Park defeated Jesus Gallardo.
WBC 168 first fought in 1988, Sugar Ray Leonard defeated Donny Lalonde

Thanks! I was only aware of the SRL/Lalonde fight at 168/175

Yes the big fights for Marvin were from Duran, Hearns and Leaonard. No one interesting at 168 at the time. There was the possibility of a fight with Michael Spinks, but it wasn't really sparking the interest that Ray, Tommy and Roberto were.

Being the dominant boxer in a division for an extended period of time is equally impressive (maybe even more impressive) than jumping up in weight.

It is vastly overrated this weight jumping.

Hagler was a rarity in more ways than one.

Hagler faced all commers, and didn't feel the need to cherrypick all of his nearby weight classes.

He was a true champion....and his legacy reflects it.

Moving around the weight classes is not always a route to greatness. As the best middleweight of all time, he had no reason to go anywhere.

Agreed 100%! Too much emphasis is placed on changing classes.

Yeah. What welterweight beats ANY version of Bernard Hopkins or Monzon or even gives them trouble?

    That's what I thought.
