Hagler smagler.....In his supposed prime he had all he could handle with the likes of Vito Auteofermo. He took the title from Minter, and lefty chump..... He was a south paw plodder and the most over rated MW in history. There was no one in the divison when he was champ. He made a career out of fighting blown up welterweights and LMW....big whoop!!

Luckily Leonard could see a plodder for what it was....and as such, gave him a lesson in the sweet science:bbb and handed him his ass....and it was good bye and good riddance.:happy

Hagler was winning comfortably imo, but he didn't think so. Mugabi countered Hagler, hurt him to the body... I hear he even broke Hagler's cheekbone in that fight. Hagler was hurt in that fight. Hagler knew he had to turn it up late, and he came out in round 11 to hurt Mugabi. After Mugabi goes down, at the count of 10, Hagler is still throwing his hads at Mugabi like come on lol. The image of Hagler that I will never forget!

Hagler was a boxer who used the ring in many more fights than he plodded in.

In actuality he probably boxed on his toes and the backfoot as often as Leonard did, if not more.

For Hearns, Hagler put out everything mentally and physically and I think he left his all in the ring that night. In a way that fight did more damage to Hagler than to Hearns. The Mugabi fight was a mistake. Hagler was inactive for a year and thought he would stop Mugabi early. Leonard knew Hagler was relatively inactive since Hearns and took advantage of it. Hagler for Mugabi and Leonard was not near the guy he was for Hearns. He always stayed active, and was active all the time until after Hearns when he took a year off to make commercials and things like that.

I think Hagler won that fight, he was robbed by the bias towards the Saccharine One.
But please confirm - ROOSTER had LEONARD winning? Are you sure.......?

Leonard didn't always want Hagler. Only after seeing Marvin struggle with Mugabi did he know Hagler slid enough for him to fight Marvin. And the middleweights of the early 1980s were a great bunch of fighters who could have been champs. The guys now are not as good compared to the Hagler and Hearns era.

Its simple math, Leonard won 5 of the 1st 6 rds, losing rd 5, Hagler won 4 of the last 6 rds, losing 11 & 12.
Leonard could argue that he won every rd except 7 & 8.

If anyone didnt do enough it was the champion.
Defence, clean punching, ring generalship all go to Leonard aswell as the phsycological control.

Marvin knows he lost that fight, thats why he`s still bitter, he`s annoyed with himself.

    Bunch of Hagler nut suckers.....

Hagler wasn't in his prime....and blah, blah, blah.....well neither was Leonard, and Leonard handed Hagler his ass. Hagler tried to box....since when could Hagler box? He was a plodding banger who was always in shape....but he in no way was a boxer. He looked like such an amateur against Leonard. He could not even cut the ring off, he just followed Leonard around. That is the MW champ? He gave away the first 4 rounds!! Just watching his fights when he was champ made me cringe. He was always off balance. He was the typical foot in the bucket southpaw. The most over rated MW champ ever.:yep

I think Bill Butcher's post pretty much nails it on the head.:good

He was a boxer-puncher for most of his career.

The whole "Leonard was this fleet-footed dancer and Hagler was this plodder" **** is from casual fans who don't actually watch their fights.

They were both versatile, complete fighters.

Hagler easily had 2-3 very competitive fights left in 'eem.

He said at ringside following the Mugabi fight, "That boy didn't belong in the ring with me."

:nutHagler's mistake wasn't trying to box Leonard, it was turning orthodox and staying in that stance too long...wait, my bad. I was the main one talking about this guy not getting respect, and I had the nerve to entertain this thought lol...
