Marvin “Pops” Johnson vs. Donny Lalonde

    I just don't see a legitimate argument for Lalonde.

    Would love to have seen Marvin knock the yee-haw out of that guy. But I loved watching Marvin in general.

    Johnson ko.

    He did spar with Don and called him the best white fighter. Lol.

    There isn't one. When he was at his best Lalonde was a good fighter, but nothing more. Marvin Johnson is immortal.

    I'm glad someone noted this. Donny always gave credit to MJ for sparring with him and helping him when he was a pretty green pro. When Donny matured as a fighter (circa 1987) he certainly gave hell to two common opponents of MJ's (Eddie Davis KO2 & Leslie Stewart KO4). Not to mention giving Sugar Ray Leonard nine rounds of hell and knocking him down and hurting him several times even with the stipulation that he was to come in at 168 instead of his usual 175 to defend HIS light-heavyweight title. This 1987/88 version of Lalonde would likely turn the trick on a faded Marvin Johnson.
