Anyone seen these? Someone have the tapes? From 1976, three months apart. Camel has MSM down in the 4th of the first fight but loses a decision. Camel takes the second meeting in Montana. Any insights?
I don't think there are tapes of these or Saads fights with Parlov Camel may have gotten a hometown nod but W/out the tape who knows. Saads management wasn't afraid to match him tough, which paid off in the long run.
Camel is one of the most mysterious champs ever. I heard his name alot, but I don't think I ever saw him on TV....and I didn't miss many fights back then.
Note Ref. Bob Foster had Camel winning big by a 100-91 score. Matthew Saad Muhammad vs. Marvin Camel (Redirected from Fight:24100) 1976-10-23 : Matthew Saad Muhammad lost to Marvin Camel by MD in round 10 of 10 Location: Adams Field House, Missoula, Montana, USA Referee: Bob Foster 91-100 Judge: Billy McFarland 96-98 Judge: Joe Antonetti 96-96 Notes Camel's victory avenged the only loss of his pro career. Three months earlier, Saad Muhammad (then Matthew Franklin) defeated Camel by a 10-round split decision. The Associated Press reported: "The outcome of the 10-round bout on Saturday night in Missoula was clouded when Franklin's manager, Frank Gelb, tried to inspect the scorecards and discovered no one from the Athletic Board was left in the arena. The board's secretary declared it a no decision." Two days after the fight, the board ruled that the decision in favor of Camel would stand. Seriously interested in these. Parlov fights too. Actually, throw in Douglas and the full Kates fight, as well.
