So do you agree with Hagler's assessment of SRL?

What about him waiting for him to get old to challenge him like Floyd did with Manny of course..

I don't care if he hates on Floyd :bart
Floyd's accomplishments speak volumes in boxing.
Now, my point is Hagler WON that fight with Sugar.....The real boxing community knows that was a GIFT:deal

I can see where Hagler is coming from because he's just downright a serious kind of dude that wanted to hurt people, so seeing guys with a big mouth, he would detest. Mayweather in some ways probably reminds Marvin of Leonard when it comes to being the goldenboy of boxing and the slickster in the sport. Overall, Floyd does do charity, but at the same time he's going to rub the wrong noses when he flashes his money so much.

Floyd's legacy is not at stake, same as Pacquiao's legacy is not at stake, but they can enhance, but both will be remembered as great boxers for their current era.

Fact of the matter is: The majority of people don't remember the who, what, where or why in regard to the details of that fight. The huge ring, the different style gloves, 12 rounds instead of 15.... SRL negotiated all of this. Nobody cares or even really mentions this today. Back then, it was a big deal. Today? Nope, people rarely mention it.

What they DO REMEMBER is that SRL beat Hagler. Over time, people remember who won and not much else. Sure, some people will always feel SRL was given a gift decision, and waited for Hagler to age, but "casual fans" which are the majority will just remember who won, or who lost.

In the end, if Mayweather beats Pac convincingly, THAT is what will be remembered. You'll have the few that hold on to the "he waited for Pac to age," but the vast majority of people will only remember "who won and how they won."

2nd and 3rd place are forgotten over time. Just win baby.

Hagler is one of my top three all time favorite fighters but he sounds a little salty to me. Hagler probably sees a little of Leonard in Mayweather and it comes out in his comments. Of course he is entitled to his opinion just like everyone else.

That's my feeling on it. Mayweather has certainly taken a page from SRL in regard to the business side of boxing. (And you'd be foolish not to.)

Sad thing about it. Hagler practically begged for the Leonard fight and he probably regrets the way he subjugated himself to Leonard to get the fight. Hagler got the fight and the money that went along with it but it seems like he is still having problems with all of the consequences of having that fight.

Not really. Hagler was pretty bitter about a lot of stuff and it was reflected in the way he fought. edit Maybe "bitter" is too strong of a term but he definitely had a chip on his shoulder.

Guys like Marvin are just made because Mayweather makes more in one fight then he did in his entire career. people who say mayweather is boring obviously didn't see him fight at 130, 135, 140. If Marvin had bothered to move up several divisions he might have learned that he had adapt his style against naturally larger opponents
