How would Marvin Hagler have done in the. 1940s?
    He would have been poor.

It is not reality it is a fantasy fight in a boxing Forum and this fantasy thread is based on if Marvin fought and if he could beat the opposition from the 40s

Willie 'The Worm' used subtle movement, strong defense and quickness to decision Hagler in Philadelphia. I dont recall him running around like a *****. If anyone gave a blueprint it was Monroe.

I did read it, this fantasy of the mafia and he
would be apart from a title... are tricky stories for people with too much free time and great imagination.
let's make this simpler and think about whether he would beat the available opposition

I think Robinson's tendency towards a classic Boxer/Puncher style would be a great foil to Hagler's offensive dynamism and more advanced inside game. Of course, Robinson is credited with being one of the best pound-for-pound boxers to have ever lived, but Hagler too was a greatly accomplished all-rounder. I'm also confident that Hagler would have been the heavier handed of the two and, like Turpin's jab, Hagler's would give Robinson plenty to think about.

I'm not saying it would be easy; just that it's more than doable, for Hagler.

I think Monroe's experience, as well as being wound up in front of a home crowd, whilst up against a youthful unfinished article in Hagler helped him a little. But, yeah - he was closer to laying down a blueprint than Leonard was - by a margin.

Well - Leonard couldn't have timed it much better for himself. But, that's a mere coincidence, according to most Leonard fans.

Your OP didn't stipulate that his career was confined to that one decade; Just how he would do there, if his debut was in 1940. Hagler had a 14 year career in his own time.

I'd expect, with him having started in 1940, his career would have crossed over into the early to mid-50s.

They are all welterweights, therefore they wouldn't fight him.

Marshall was never a welterweight (I don't believe) and Burly and Robinson fought middles all the time.

Marshall was bigger than Hagler was lol

IIRC, Robinson and Burley fought more MWs than they did WWs. If not, they sure as **** fought a lot of MWs.

You're right. If he fought Robinson in the 50s, he'd be fighting the middle weight version
