He was probably strong, however, some styles match up well and Hagler started to think he could bomb out guys at this point in his career, and Marvin was not too sharp in this fight. He was rusty and inactive. I never thought Mugabi was that great, considering the Thomas and Norris fights, but he was a hell of a puncher. and I knew his punch was legit by the way he knocked out guys like Hargrove.

Love these 'snippets of knowledge' type threads. Did u get the snippet from a 'Best I've Faced' magazine segment?
I just tried to make a tentative 154lb list the other day. Maybe I rated Mugabi too low. I like him to watch, though. Very entertaining.

Simple, if they didn't weigh in at Middleweight the day of the fight, they were DQ'ED or could fight but it wouldn't have been for the championship. To fight for or defend the Middleweight championship, or any championship weight class but on fight night come in at Lt.heavy or heavier than the championship your defending or fighting for is one of the reasons boxing is in such bad shape today.

No, the first day before weigh in was in 1983. For Spinks vs Eddie MM. The change was extremely slow, and took years before it became the norm. I'm talking like, 88/89, even still some in the 90s. I'd be willing to bet money that Hagler weighed in the day of the fight for about 95% of his contests.
