Marvin Hagler once said this about Calzaghe:"I would never bet against him."

Calzaghe was never a natural supermiddle. He was fairly large for a supermiddleweight. The man who fought Kessler and Lacy was already having weight problems three years before he faced them. He always hydrated to above the 175 lb limit.

ANY time you compare Martinez to Pavlik, you seem to forget that Calzaghe had FAST FEET in addition to his FAST HANDS with HIGH WORKRATE.

I HAVE ALREADY agreed that Hagler is the better fighter, but he was also the far smaller man.

Calzaghe is no plodder like Margarito and Pavlik that can be confused with speed. Calzaghe had BRAINS and he freaking used it. When this happens, POUNDAGE BECOMES A HUGE ISSUE.

I do damn agree that Hagler had superior jabs and fundamentals, but that alone cannot win you a fight if the thing that his opponent had to do was use his weight advantage to grab and push his opponent down to prevent inside exchanges, then rain a bunch of windmill shoeshines on Hagler to win by points. And JC never got tired. DAMN.

ATG ranking, Calzaghe is nothing to Hagler, but H2H, Calzaghe in his prime is a much stronger fighter than Hagler ever was because in Calzaghe, Hagler would have faced a combination of FAST, SMART, and HEAVIER/STRONGER fighter than he's ever faced throught his career.

There's a huge reason why a lot of people think Martinez is a much bigger man against Pacquiao than Margarito. It's because he's not just a plodding slow guy. Anybody saying Hagler blows Calzaghe out is being unrealistic.

Calzaghe is also a natural counterpuncher.

Calzaghe would easily win a wide UD.
America has to learn to live with it and accept that Calzaghe beat Hopkins, Jones, Lacy, Mitchell, Brewer, Manfredo, Sheika.
46-0, 21 title defences, 24 title fights, WBO WBC WBA IBF RING SMW TITLES AND RING LHW TITLE.
Hagler would have just been another American opponent on Calzaghes win record, and then you would all be on here saying you dont respect the win as Hagler was only a MW

Hagler and Calzaghe are a couple of my favs.

To say joe would get blown out is ridiculous and full of bias/hate. Calzaghe proved him self at a very high level and at a higher weight. Calzaghe could take this on pts.

He is. During his career, he was considered as a big SMW. He rehydrated normally over the LHW limit by 8 or 9 lbs. The fact that you can't even counter the rest of the argument shows how flawed you are in basing your HAGLER WINS DURR BECAASUEUSU.

    Seriously, you're embarrassing yourself.

A guy has FORTY-FOUR out of forty-six fights at one weight (96%), but he is not a natural at that weight because he was "fairly large".

Hagler never fought over 160lbs, so I don't know. Now if the fight is at 160lbs, I have to say that, Hagler wins by brutal beating.

Even that win is becoming less impressive.
