Yup, even when he slightly past his best (Alvarez 2) he came back absolutely brilliantly in the second half of that fight and did enough to keep his belts imo. One thing is certain, no middleweight in the World, ever, walks through a prime Golovkin, that chin and that stamina is something you rarely see together, add the punch power and the fundamentals and that is why so many of us regard Gennady as an ATG.
Mate, put him in with any 160 fighter that’s rated an atg at the weight and I wouldn’t bet against him, he’s one of the top elite atg’s at the weight. The only thing I’d disagree with is him being slightly past his best, he’s speed has been gone for years, he’s getting by on a chin and great fundamentals, but the killers gone, I can’t see him stopping anyone decent at this stage. I don’t want him fighting anymore
This MW era is vastly overrated, Haglers era was absolutely stacked to the hilt. GGG, Canelo, Jacobs etc get handled easily by the likes of Hearns, Duran, Mugabi let alone Hagler.
Thank you very much..... GGG has only really fought Canelo and Jacobs who i would consider class A fighters and is 1/1/1 and the Jacobs one was as close as the first Canelo one.. Im not sure why this has become Hagler v GGG fanboys ....? I can only think its the younger casuals who think GGG punching Rubio on the forehead or MAtt MAcklin in the belly is better than Haglers fights that will be shown for the next 100 years even though its a video tape era
If you dont think Hagler could take care of Rubio,Macklin,Murray, Stevens etc then boxing is not the sport for you my friend
Hold on. Nobody said that. GGG did take care of them in fine style. Doesn’t that count for something? Would marvelous Marvin have done much better?
@tdf1974 nobody is disrespecting Hagler here, but you are disrespecting GGG. They are both great fighters and both beasts. Hagler retired when he was 32. GGG declined when he was 36/37 against Jacobs and Alvarez. Despite your trolling I think GGG has a good resume and don't forget he was massively avoided in his prime. Put prime Golovkin against 99.999% of middleweights in history and its a GGG KO win. You don't realise how good he was/ or are purposely not admitting it. Yes Hagler would destroy Andrade and Saunders. Alvarez would give a decent account of himself and last the distance. But prime GGG is a different story! Hagler would get hurt in that fight and have to go through a war. You are delusional (or trolling) by claiming it would be an easy win.
Prime Golovkin is like Prime Naz. Very good at beating B rated fighters. Over the hill when facing world class fighters. Hagler would kill GGG. Gennady wouldn't stand and trade.
You have to give credit for good wins first and foremost. However is it fair to mark GGG down for beating b and c level fighters? He's probably the most avoided fighter of the last 15 or 20 years...that he should have got decisions in his late 30's against prime Canelo is proof of how good he was. Hagler v GGG would be great, could GGG cut the ring off on Hagler? How would Hagler approach it? Whose chin would ultimately prevail?
Terrible comparison. Naz stepped up when he was in his prime at 27 years old and was embarrassingly outclassed from start to finish. GGG was 37 and past his best when he faced his best opponent Alvarez and yet everyone knows he won that fight. GGG chin is possibly the best ever chin. He would laugh at Haglers best shots.
Who you calling a turd you ****ing ******. Rookie, been a member since July STFU. Probably not even old enough to have seen Hagler you *****. Hagler would deal with GGG easily simple as.
Where's Bulldog to tell us all that Prime Eubank walks through each and every name mentioned in here? Only joking, I like the mans passion for that era of British boxing.
