Oh we're playing this game :pop what was Buster Douglas's best win? so does that mean.... did I do good? :think

  2. Hopkins would jump out of the ring and feign injury. Hagler by TD.

    Corny.:rofl Typically.

Let's see.....Since they fought in different eras and there is no chance of them ever fighting there are only so many ways we can go about speculating the outcome of the fight. Both of them had their best wins over blown up WW. The Hearns that Hagler fought was a MUCH bigger puncher and faster than anyone BHop ever fought (besides RJJ, speed-wise that is), Tito nor ODLH don't compare at all, and Hearns was also a much bigger man and arguably a natural MW. Haglers biggest loss was to SRL, which was arguable, but was a much closer fight than the BHop-RJJ fight.

After that BHop lost to guys like Jermaine Taylor and Calslappy, both guys Hagler would have worked. BHop doesn't have one "great" win, and while he does a lot of things well he isn't on Hagler's level imho.

The Hearns win was a very good win for Hagler but MW was not Hearns best weight as his chin wasn't up to scratch to be slugging it out with guys that could really bang as proven by both Hagler and Barkley, and while Hopkins was losing to RJJ, Hagler was losing to Bobby Watts....and when Hopkins lost to Taylor he was 40 years old and many felt Hopkins should have won atleast one of the two encounters but we wont dwell on that fact.

As mentioned before Hopkins was 40+ when he lost to Taylor in two razor close fights and you use this as some sort of negative when Hagler was losing to Willie (who?) Monroe of all people and Joe Calzaghe is a 46-0 undefeated ATG (facts) and he got his toughest fight in years against a 43 year old Hopkins while Hagler got beaten by a blown up Welter who was coming back off a 2 year retirement.

Why I think Hopkins wins is because as I stated before Hopkins has no trouble with smaller men and in this mythical matchup Hagler would be the smaller man, Hopkins would impose his size and strength on Hagler use lateral movement and frustrate Hagler and eek out a decision one way or another.

Hagler is clearly a better outside boxer in the traditional sense between the two. We're not talking about a past-prime Hagler who fought Hearns, Mugabi, and Leonard. Let's take Hagler from around the time he massacred Hamsho and Sibson. His footwork, jab, and technical skills/counterpunching from range were beautiful. Hagler loved to use the entire ring and box and there is no real speed difference between the two either.

Hopkins has never been a jab oriented outside fighter. He's more of a spoiler who uses angles and pin-points counter right hands. If Hopkins is going to win this fight, he's going to have to do a lot of his best work on the inside also. He'll have to find a home for his straight right hand and take it in close. If it becomes more of a technical boxing match, Hagler most certainly has the edge with his consistent southpaw jab and skill-set from distance. Neither guy beat somebody quite as good at MW as the other (although a case could be made that Hearns beats Hopkins).

Do I think Hagler would look beautiful and fluid in this fight? No, I think it'd be real ugly a lot of the time. But I like Hagler to edge a close decision peak-for-peak, taking the championship rounds down the stretch.

    Hagler would take Bernard.

Bernard gets outworked here. He does not have the power to hurt Hagler, the skill to outbox him easily, or the workrate to win rounds. If anyone is getting ko'd here it is Hopkins.

    That's such a **** post

Hopkins isn't Bobby Watts or Willie Munroe, that did **** all in their respective careers but beat Hagler
Hopkins isn't a blown up Duran that Hagler struggled with and barely beat
Hopkins isn't an old washed up sugar ray Leonard. ****ing douche

Cool pic, you've got the heights about right. Interesting to see.

I'd favour Hagler if he can keep his head.

Also Hopkins best loss is to a prime RJJ. Not only that but I don't believe Hopkins was in his prime at this point. Hagler loses to a old and ring rusty Leonard who was blown up from welterweight. If you ask me Hopkins loss is a much better one on the record than Hagler

This would be very close, and I'd need more time to really think about it, but I think I'd favor Hopkins. It all depends on who can really control, as Nacho would say, the "zone of combat"; the pace, the space, the angles, the range, etc.

You can tell from the comments, who saw a prime Hopkins and who didn't.
