Fight at middleweight, but Canelo is free to rehydrate to 180 while Hagler has to come in at his historic proven weight just under 160. Can Hagler use what has been described as magic to beat a world class fighter that may be 20 pounds heavier?
We trust the scales in all other pre day before weigh in fights, you want to break protocol now? Canelo said he May go up 180 to 190 in an interview before the Khan fight, he could have lied and been higher, good point. Not sure Haglar ever beat a world class opponent with at least 10 pounds on him.
No way does Canelo weigh 180 pounds. Does he look like a light heavyweight to you. A max of 170 pounds does he weigh
Hagler beats Canelo easy at whatever weight. Hagler has tons more skills. Plus, Canelo has no workrate.
Yes, full middleweights usually came in to the fight heavier. I'd guess 164 to 168 was the ballpark for most full middles on a same day weigh in. Some would be more. Even with a 2-hour-before-contest weigh-in an athlete can rehydrate quite significantly. Anyway, a 24-hour or 36-hour weigh-in is a different matter, that's the point.
Yeah. This. ^ Hagler just brings too much of everything to the table for Canelo to deal with. I think Alvarez would get a major boxing lesson and thanks to Hagler's chin, he doesn't even have a puncher's chance. That said, I reckon the fight might be a good one regardless. The extra weight would help him take MMH's shots a bit better, and he could even look good in spots. But Hagler will break him down in the end, of that I am sure.
It's definitely a different matter. My point (just an aside, really) was that OP was exaggerating the difference though.
Hagler would take Alvarez apart.outbox him and bust him up in about 6rnds in similar performance to the Simpson fight.Hagler was a different class.
He appeared to look like one to Freddie Roach and Virgil Hunter. Both estimated him to be well over 180. Cotto was 164 and he appeared to be much heavier to some observers. Kellerman claimed 180. What do you mean by max? 171 for Lara. 172 for Trout, 174 for Angulo.
None.Alvarez is no light HW weighing the same as one doesn't mean he would be effective at the weight.Hagler would beat him at any weight.
Hagler wins he was better fighter and was more active. However old Hagler the one that fought Mugabi and Leonard would make for a fun fight vs the current version of Canelo. Still lean towards that version over Canelo but I think it would produce some good fireworks.
