I've been arguing this with somebody for a while who's saying Hagler would be dominated and then ko'd in the later rounds, i do not agree at all, your opinions ?
And please don't talk about the height and reach. Monzon had only 4 cm height advantage and a 2cm reach advantage.

Monzon, in my opinion would be too clever a ring general for Marv. Every time this thread comes up I maintain: Monzon W15 Hagler. No one knocks out Hagler,..even Monzon.

The two best middleweights of all time in my opinion. No............I have n't forgotten about Sugar Ray Robinson ! He was the best boxer ever, pound for pound, but he was at his best as a welterweight. I would place Robinson third in an all time great middleweight table.

As for Marvin and Carlos,I can't make my mind up about who's number one and two here.

It's a great fight...but given Monzon's style it's a fight that forces Hagler into being the aggressor and somewhat out of his comfort zone. But with that said, Marvin's determination, southpaw stance, and boxing ability make King Carlos work...what hasn't been said about Monzon's style already a 100x over on this forum???...I'll just say this, Monzon used his physical advantages in height and reach, along with physical strength at the weight, better than anyone I've seen on film. Another thing, he almost never was brought into or forced into exchanges by an opponent...and lastly, he broke off the fighting range (moving out of range after he punched) thereby breaking up an opponent's fighting rythym, and them out of their own range to get punches off and forcing them to reset...given this...Not the most gifted or asthetically pleasing...but a very high ring IQ...Monzon is just a tough one to try to beat at 160!
The reasons above are why I think Monzon holds all the cards in this match up...

I used to say Hagler. Now I say Monzon. Close either way, and a true clash of titans.

Monzon was the greatest middleweight of all time. I choose Monzon.

Nobody ko's Hagler. I'd give Hagler a very outside shot of stopping Monzon by catching him pulling straight back with his hands down. Hagler's true power hand, the right hand, could hurt Monzon and maybe if he caught him on the ropes he could get him out of there. But 3 out of 4 times I'd take Monzon by decision. I think Monzon could upset Hagler's rythem and get him tentative (ala Duran).

It's one of the more intriguing fantasy matchups for sure. I pick Monzon by close decision, but no.........there is no way this would ever have ended in a stoppage. Monzon shied away from pressing things, preferring to limit exchanges, and it was going to take some real concentraed effort on the part of a wrecking ball to put Hagler away. No one shot would ever do it. Those two factors pretty much eliminate any kind of stoppage possibility.
