I don't believe Qawi could make 160....if he does he is either 12 y/o or severely drained...Hagler destroys him and simply toys with him before the ref stops it in the 3rd.
I think Hagler would be strong enough at 175 or even coming in at 172 or so, and with his jab he could beat Qawi.
Hagler would have to jump 2 divisions to fight a really really good LHW. Both can't knock the other guy out, that I'm sure. Hagler could outbox Qawi, but with his head movement and constant agression I think Marvelous Marvin would have had his hands full. Qawi by UD.
I don't see hagler ever making that move...but if he did, hemost certainly would try and outbox him fromthe outside...to no avail.
Marvin had a great jab. Not a stinging jab and as punishing as Hearns, but it was effective and controlled the pace along with southpaw stance. I wouldn't be surprised if Marvin could outbox Qawi. I know Marvin was a greater fighter than Qawi, so the question is was Marvin enough bettter than Qawi to offset the weight difference, and remember Qawi was not tall and Marvin had a longer reach.
Qawi wins . He was better p4p and better h2h . If Duran could b competitive what would a much stronger , much more durable and n even younger man do ? Hagler's competition is overblown out of proportions , like Monzon's and both were about as untested at d weight as Hopkins was .
I recall this match up being talked about quite a bit. Both fighters mentioned it at one point. Qawi was quoted as saying "I like it. Talk it up" Hagler said "This type of fight would really bring out the best in me" Qawi would be too big for Hagler, basically. Marvin's iron jaw would enable him to last the distance, and he'd have his moments but Dwight would have a clear win on the cards.
