Well.according to manny people here the size is not that important, and we must to judge a h2h match based on the resume of the fighters and their greatness(right janitor?), Also on this forum the speed and skill are way more important than the weight and size.marvin weighed 160 and shavers 210,50 pounds of difference is not enough to overcome the difference of class, just like louis (200) and carnera (260) right janitor? Or roy jones or ezzard Charles beating David tua right? Plus marvin had granite chin between mws(automtically he is chuvalo or tua in the chin departament between hws). shavers was chinny ,got stopped by ron standers a nobody , hagler took shots from hearns who did hit much harder pfp so hagler got a better chin than shavers h2h, also hagler got much better stamina, better skill and was way faster,he could tire shavers and stop him late, what do you think?
You ask the following questions: Have there been examples of a fighter of Haggler’s size beating a fighter of Shavers size at world level? The answer to that is yes, but they are very few and far between. This means that it is theoretically possible to favour Haggler, but it would require an exceptional case. Does Haggler’s record lead you think that he is likely to be successful against much larger fighters? Since he never went beyond the middleweight division we can’t say that he wouldn’t be, but we have no reason to think that he would be. Does Shavers record lead you to think that he is likely to struggle with a much smaller fighter? The answer to that is no, beyond the fact that he wasn’t that durable. Were the fighters that shaver was beating legitimately world class? The answer is that in some cases they clearly were. Taking all of the above into account you can’t say that Haggler would definitely lose, but you would have to predict that he would, based on the available information.
Well Marv wanted it to be Hagler, his name was originally actually Higgledy, but after hours of bartering, Marv got them to accept Haggler. 'Marvellous' he was indeed at it.
Yes, some on here have underestimated the importance of size differential, but few have postulated on Welterweight v. HWY or Middleweight v. HWY like you are doing.
This matchup is a bridge too far. But if Hagler had weighed 8-10 pounds more, begun his career in the 19th century, and been raved about by old-timers in the absence of fight footage, you'd have to pick him to outclass Shavers and eventually maybe even stop him.
If Hagler had weighed 8-10 pounds more, then that would be quite a big game changer. While there are very few examples of middleweights beating world class heavyweights, there are a whole myriad of cases of light heavyweights beating world class heavyweights.
