Question, which I am sure I have complained about before, would they have to weigh in same day? As ridiculous as the weight disparity has become in the heavyweight division with the super size bunch that has been growing in both number and dimension over the past few decades, what used to be somewhat objective size measures of fighters based on weight via the lower classes has now been completely perverted as well. Any fighter who weighs 175 on fight night would not have been weighing same day as a middle, without some serious issues dehydrating and rehydrating. Never mind MMH against GGG, which I think Hagler would win on points, but how about GGG vs. Michael Spinks, or Dwight Muhammad Qawi? ;-) That would be fun, at least for GGG haters. I point it out only to show the ridiculousness. Canelo (and on a lower scale, quality wise, JCC Jr.) epitomize this, but he is certainly not alone. In all fairness, GGG has not finished his career, and if he takes some more good scalps before he's done, then this will be a good debate, because he appears to be a rather excellent fighter, and he deserves to be considered with his entire body of work behind him. In response to some of the other posts, for me, the question is not who has Hagler beat that is as good as GGG (because, who has GGG beat that is as good as Hagler, or even approaches that level), but rather, who has GGG beaten vs. who has Hagler beaten (and, to his detriment, lost to), as I think that would be the best way to measure how they might fare head to head although not a lock. Haglers resume is miles ahead of GGGs. His resume before becoming champion is better than GGGs. Just the way things are, GGGs could be better if he was able to get a few more fights, too. This would be a very good fight, if they had same day weigh in, if GGG is allowed to weigh 175 or thereabouts that is BS, because he is not fighting as a middleweight. And if they had those kind of rules when Hagler was fighting, maybe he could have fought a division lower than his real weight. It could be worth revisiting some of these threads after a few years, because by then we will have a GGG who may have had the chance to demonstrate his skills against a few more real fighters.
Leonard could be the only real outlier, but he only had the one fight there. The rest, I don't see as being locks over Lemieux/Jacobs by any stretch. There's enough of a combination of flawed talent that I would have a hard time saying either batch is out of the other's league. There's either size, chin, or stamina issues on both sides, and enough power in the other group to take advantage of it.
GGG looks like a legit great fighter...but I'll go with Hagler UD in a good fight. Hagler would choose to box like he did against Briscoe for this one.
I'm sure every poster that secretly hates Triple G will jump on now and say no way he competes with Hagler meanwhile Hagler was already retired for two years at this point after looking way past it for several fights. Triple G still has not lost, one close fight against the #1 contender doesn't harm his stature at all.
Taking on the consensus top contender and winning now harms you? What was Hagler doing at Triple G's age again?
It was only Danny Jacobs. A non descriptor with no notable victories to him name. GGG was meant to blast him out , he ended up losing and earning a gift decision. This effects his status as a supposed all time great since Jacobs was only one out of very few world level opponents he ever faced. Pure desperation. What was GGG doing during his 20's? Where are all the hall of famers and ATGs on Golovkins resume?
The desperation is all yours. As usual. Triple G got the win it wasn't a gift. That is a LIE. And Hagler was retired since you ducked the answer. After you cherry picked my earlier reply to try and suit your agenda. Class is out clown. Sad you got so much hate for certain fighters.
Hagler achieved more by 32 than GGG ever will. Its a moot point made by a desperate fanboi in damage control. He got the decision but looked terrible in obtaining it with loads of real fans having Jacobs as the clear winner. HBO had the fight even going into the 12th. It was not meant to go anywhere near the 12th round. It was a bad night for Golovkin that draws question marks over his supposed greatness. So go off and cry that im telling the truth and exposing you as a ridiculous mickey mouse fan of individuals instead of being a true fan of the sport.
GGG threw more punches, landed more punches with more accuracy, did more damage, was the aggressor, got the KD. Dino "We wuz wobbed!"
