I envision Barkley doing exactly what you brought up.

He would likely elect to box. The only difference is that I see Iran taking the decision. The size difference would be a large part in Barkley being successful. Iran was 6'1, Hagler was 5'9.

Leonard was able to move ( run) away from Hagler, The Hagler/Iran fight would be much more fun. Barkly would stand on the outside and hit Hagler quite a bit as he was coming in, Hagler would get in his shots but unlike Hearns would not turn into spaghetti legs after being hit.

I don't think Hagler had enough to take Barkley out, he would have to put in some serious combinations and at that stage Hagler was not able to do it. Barkley would be battered but survive.

Hagler was going to lose to the next legitimate challenger. Leonard was coming off a huge layoff and was smaller and he still beat Hagler. Iran was peak and had all the skills to survive and take the belt from Marvin. Had Leonard fought the Barkley Duran did, I think Iran would have knocked Sugar out.

Leonard would have never fought Hagler if he was anywhere near his best. I give Leonard credit, he knew when the time was right.

Your right balders, iran could really put his shots together.he had v good boxing fundamentals when he choose .....i dont think its a stretch to see barkley beat the 87 hagler by boxing...but any other time marvin was a brilliant boxer and he would just wipe out iran like he did sibson..boxing barkley or brawling barkley

Hagler of 87 wasnt worth a damn. couldmt demt whipped cream and slower than molasses not to mention very easy to hit and unmotivated

in that case Hagler cant hurt him and will have trouble like he did with Mugabi who may be a cut above Barkley

Marvin may have enough smarts however to pull out a close decision

this goes to a decision but I dont know which way

Marvin stops Iran around the 8th round, too much skill. Street fight, Iran all day, every day.

Barkley would not hit Hagler the way Hearns did.. hearns was a faster and sharper puncher. Hagler would be too fast for Barkley. With Hearns, Hagler had to fight that crazy fight to get inside. He wouldn't have to fight crazy with Barkley. He would just sit on the outside and land his punches and cut up Barkley.

Hagler was always a middle. Not sure about fight day weights, but Barkley always looked massive, similar to a modern middle.
    However, Hagler every time.
