    I didn't see this fight.

****, he made a complete tool out of Jones!!!

Joe was oozing with ****in' confidence in that fight IMO.

Outboxing Hagler from the outside is a tall order though. Joe may be taller, but Hagler is rangier (very long arms) and has the superior jab. Up close, Hagler is the more refined in-fighter, but Calzaghe has some tricks where he fights his way out of a clinch, ties up at the right time, throws quick eye-catching shots. Calzaghe also has a size advantage as Hagler was used to fighting middleweights, not guys who weighed in at 168 thirty hours before fight time. So Calzaghe will probably hold his own here. If he's getting beat a lot up close, well he has a good sense of distance and ring generalship so I don't think too much of the fight would take place there if Calzaghe was struggling too bad there.

We are talking about peak versions of each fighter. Hagler was definitely quicker in the early 80s than the version that fought Leonard. That also means we should have a younger version of Calzaghe with healthier hands. Calzaghe was past his peak when he started getting the big money fights and US exposure.

calzaghe would have been durable enough to take what hagler gave out, his chin at 168 was far better than what it was when he moved up to light heavy and he was only put down by flash kds:blood

Fair points. I would say that Calzaghe still has an advantage when it comes to styles. He was always able to adapt to an opponent. Hagler, for all his great accomplishments, did give away three winnable fights in his career. Hagler may have lost some quickness when he fought SRL, but SRL had just fought a journeyman in five years. That fight showed that Hagler could be made uncomfortable with a style based on speed and volume and Joe is the best speed/volume puncher I can remember. I don't think Halger packs more one punch power than those uppercuts by Kessler that hit Joe flush and what did he do? He went right back to throwing punches. I have never seen a fighter react with so much return fire and aggression when hit flush as Joe. Leonard flurried when he was in trouble against Hagler and Hagler DID NOT walk throuhg it and KO him. He was visible confused and lost his momentum in these moments. That exact same thing that Leonard did is something Joe did for his entire career, only better.

The fight goes the distance and outcome will depend on what the judges favor stylistically.

can i say the people who think cal would be ripped up on the inside are wrong, his work on the inside is extremly underated, i could see him popping 3 punches at haggler before getting on his bike again

But Joe was really quick with his reactions, eh? Becasue Roy Jones, even at his age, is still quick for his size and weight.

Every part of me wants to say Hagler, but Calz is just so damn hard to pick against for me.

That stupidly high workrate added to a solid chin make him really hard to beat H2H. He just takes rounds away with his activity. However, simialr to Morales, Joe could be dragged into a war..and that is not advisable with Hagler. You're not knocking Hagler out, and though Joe would be getting more punches off in the exchanges, Marvin def has the power to hurt Joe.

Really really tough fight to pick in my opinion.

PAst prime Hagler , Calzaghe may win a SD

Prime vs Prime - 1st the fight wouldnt happen as not in Joes nature to fight elite guys in their prime (purely on evidence todate)

He didn't look so smug when he was sitting on the canvas. Calzaghe slapped Jones' ***** up but there isn't much to brag about in that, at this point in his career, a bit of the showboating was funny but it was a bit over the top and distasteful, particularly considering the nature of the matchup.

Hopkins and RJJ may not have been prime when they fought Calzaghe, but then Calzaghe was past his best also.

It is a hard match-up but I think Joe edges it if he boxes smart.

We`ll never know because Marvin never tested his **** above MWT tho did he ?

Ps. Hagler wouldnt be destroying **** & his punches were accumulative, he never had `tremendous power.`
