What is a monster puncher ? 52 KO's in 62 fights is serious .. the guys he didn't KO were in a few fights where his mental issues hindered his performance. It's very hard to find one fight where he tee'd off on guys and then did not fall .. how many great middleweights , ones that did not count on one dimension one punch hit harder ?

As far as Cerdan vs Hagler I favor Marvin but the little bit I can see of Cerdan he certainly looks terrific. Hs resume at middle against top guys seems a bit thin but it also appears to be a lot of reasons for that based on the times .. I certainly am of the group that views him as for real, that's for sure.

I concur. @he grant -great examples. Many of his fights as shown in that great highlight reel shows he was always in range to follow up with a volley of shots.
Julian Jackson or Thomas Hearns is my example of a monstrous puncher. One & done. But I digress; Hagler over Cerdan in a FOTY fantasy fight.

Hagler could punch, I just don't view him as the George Foreman of middle weights. Hence a monster puncher.

Guys like Fitzsimmons, Jackson, Golovkin, and if you buy into him Ketchel likely hit harder.

If you throw in Fitz and maybe Jackson's (most biggest shots came at 154 against jr. middleweights) there are very few we can say of top quality were bigger punchers at 160 than Hagler. For all his legend a lot of fighters seemed to go twenty round distances against Ketchel... I would openly say that Hagler was a bigger puncher at 160 than GGG . He beat better men far more decisively. Canelo walked thru GGG's punches and never blinked. I'd say GGG is a very competent, heavy handed guy but a bit overrated as a puncher.. . even monster punchers like Arguello don't flatten everyone with one shot .. when Arguello fought Mancini he said even with his power he was not taking Mancini out early as he was "so strong". When you look at Hagler the way he destroyed very , very tough , good and strong guys like Minter, Sibson, Roldon ( while long in the tooth) it was pretty damn impressive ..

I think he's right. Hagler could punch but there's a reason why he's never mentioned in the same breath as McClellan and Jackson etc, he wasn't a monster puncher, a strong precise relentless at times is more Hagler. He could wear guys down or overwhelm them with his skills and strong punching, but monster punch no. Another monster puncher is Nigel Benn

Agreed. He wasn't a one shot lights out puncher at all, although he was a great all round puncher

I agree that Benn and McClellan and Benn were savage punchers but feel Hagler was at least in the next category and a step above the type of fighter than had to wear one down and stop them. His record shows this.

Be careful...People rave about how great he looks on film but at the same time you have to take into account who he was fighting. Careful matchmaking can a make a guy look like freaking superman. I think Cerdan was unproven at the highest levels of the sport.

I'll go with that, a step down from monster but a hard puncher nonetheless. I actually think he was dead precise, and long arms with great timing. A proper balanced puncher, a good mix of everything

This is a good point...he looks good on film but I really dont know anything about the guys hes tearing into besides Zale and he was worn out.
That's what makes calling an ending tough here.
I took Marvin as stated above by UD but didn't rule out a stoppage. Just dont know how else to call it to be honest.

IMO, Hagler was not hurt and it's not the first time he's backed off. I've even seen him back off from SRL in the 12th round

Had hagler BEEN hurt, we'd all know it and would not have gone back on the attack that soon

I'm convinced. that second Obel fight!

and in the Colbert fight, you could see real genius in Hagler as Colbert rose and circled, first to the right and then to the left, he reminded me of SRL but Hagler then was not the Hagler 10 years later catching Mike first one way, then the other and ending the fight

I don't find Hagler a "big banger" but would agree he's a very good puncher.

Holmes and Ali don't hit hard hard enough to be called "boxer/punchers". Hagler does.

Hagler wasn't overly powerful with the left hand but hit hard with the right.
