While i think P4P, Hagler is the superior technician and boxer overall. Spinks would be too big and powerfull for him to overcome. The Jynx would outmuscle him if Hagler tried to press and would be too long and big if Hagler tried to box from the back foot.

this is one fight that I don`t like for Hagler, and here`s why... Spinks had great height and reach, solid jab damn good power and a very slick awkward style... Unlike the rail thin Hearns, I don`t think he buckels at all under Hagler`s assault. He can`t stop Spikns, amd Spinks power on Hagler walking in, is plentiful enogh to keep MMH at bay. Halger had some trouble with tall movers, The Worm, Boogaloo Geraldo. Spinks is a little too much everything for the Marvelous one... Spinks, much like he did with Quawi, keeps Hagler at the end of his jab, mixes in just enough right crosses and hook to let let Hagler in to work. Hagler`s rcok solid chin I feel would prevent the KO. Spinks, 12 or 15 rd UD

2 of my all-time favorites. Mike Spinks by decision. I am pretty certain no middleweight of the modern era could beat Mike.

Hagler was maybe an inche shorter than the avergage MW, with a long reach. He fought at the limit lean & muscullar. He was not at all small for MW.
but it would be hard to beat such a skilled & bigger fighter at a higher weight.

    ATG LHW vs. ATG MW.

    Spinks would be too much.

P4P they are around the same level.

Spinks, probably by clear decision. Hagler was smart not to jump up to 175. Spinks would have had a trememdous height advantage. I doubt Marvin would have a strength advantage either, 15 lbs. is a big jump.

I don't think Spinks would ko him though. See Spinks v. the 5'9 Eddie Davis. Spinks had all kinds of problems with him in Feb. 1984.

I don't think so, Light heavyweight doesn't suit Hagler to me I feel he was actually fairly small for a middleweight and could probably have fought at 154 if he choose to. I have no doubt Hagler could beat some former light heavyweight champions but not Spinks. Spinks was a great fighter in his own right easily one of if not the best light heavyweight of all time.....

i believe Marv could pull this off. Remember what they said about Mike's chaces against Larry Holmes

Marvin was of course, the best p4p fighter in the sport and had already claned the clock of several six plus footers, and on his way to beating yet another in three

at worst, he couldnt do worse than washed up Eddie Davis

Marvin possibly gets kayoed by Michael.Michael too much for him, don't base the Eddie Davis fight as a positive for Marvin, Probably some things going on at the time that made Michael not be at 100% for Eddie, though Eddie fought him nice.

Davis wasn't washed up in early 84 when he fought Spinks. He was washed up though in '87 when he fought LaLonde.

I think Spinks was great but his competition at 175 after the Qawi decision was pretty mediocre. The division was weak compared to 1977-1981. Davis was the best guy he fought after Qawi until Holmes.

If Marvin had wanted to move up, Spinks probably would have obliged him. Marvin would need to find a way to get inside, like Davis did. Davis used a jab and Tim Witherspoon/Archie Moore cross arm defense to pary Spinks jab. He avoided Spinks outside power shots for the most part. Marvin didn't really have that kind of defense. I think Spinks would be able to hit him from the outside. I think Marvin would last the distance, though.

Too bad CWs weren't popular then and the SMW division carried little prestige.
Cause if Hagler could a got spinks down to 68 like Ward did with Dawson......

I could easily see Hagler KTFo a weight drained glass jawed Spinks.
At 175 though....the 180 lb Hagler is bloodied over 12 end route to a closish but clear decision
