    Sure did on nov 5 1977, in a fight for the vacant belt, left vacant by the retirement of Carlos Monzon. Valdes looked very lethargic.

    I agree, moreso than in the second bout for sure, but I just thought he was trying to box Briscoe rather than knock him out like in the second fight.

    He did try to box him but Bennie was coming on in the later part of the fight, after this televised fight from Italy, I believe, Carlos entered the ring to present Valdes the belt. I had a feeling that Rodrigo was spent after two losing wars against Monzon, I was right, he looked horrible against Corro on April 22 1978, and again on Nov 11 1978.

    Well, maybe I'm just confusing Valdez' prime with post-prime. Funny, I actually call this fight the end of Briscoe's prime whereas others do not.
