There was no way for Hill to take the lineal title because Spinks vacated it after a masterful run at LHW, something that Roid didn't do, by the way, so Hill was the closest thing to a lineal champ. DM beat him up, Roid picked up his leftovers, i.e. cherrypicking. If Roid was so supremely confident in his abilities then why didn't he just go fight Michalczewski? Answer? Because he knew his Glass Jaw might be shattered. Beating Johnson didn't mean **** because Johnson was holding one of the belts that the alphabet commissions stripped Michalczewski of. Once again, Roid cherrypicking an easy opponent with a title that didn't mean ****. And HBO wanted him to fight a living, breathing body, not any no-hoper that the alphabet organizations could find to serve as a "mandatory". It was ridiculous, he was fighting jokes that weren't fit to be sparring partners and he always put it off to the fact that he had to fight them or risk his belts. And his belts were all meaningless trinkets that he put above fighting the best competition he could find. HBO didn't have a list of guys they wanted him to fight, they just wanted him to fight real fighters and he didn't. First of all, learn to spell "amateur". Secondly, you can ***** all you want about my opinion, but the fact of the matter is that Roid never cleaned out any division. He didn't stick around long enough in any of them to do so and his first priority in all of them was to pick off the shittiest beltholder and then make plans on moving up to the next division and doing the same again. You can try to make excuses for him all you want but even fans of this joke who have posted in this thread have readily admitted that while he had the talent to have a chance with any of them, he didn't even try. Instead he consistently took the path of least resistance and came away with a tarnished legacy full of "could've, would've, should'ves". His career was smoke and mirrors, he was hiding one of the worst Glass Jaws of All-Time during it, and now he is being exposed for the China Chinned Chump that he is.
So fighting Reggie Johnson for the IBF was cherry picking an easy opponent ?? Thank you ! You just exposed yourself as truly ignorant ! Funny that you say Jones cherry picked all these guys but fail to mention how Jones picked up these titles ..Jones won the WBA after beating the man DM refused to fight in Lou Devalle ! Devalle earned his shot yet DM wanted no part of him Ironic ! You also forget to mention that Johsnon beat another one of DM's mando's in Gunthrie who he also refused to fight but you want come here and call people cherry pickers And Hill never beat a lineal champ so why you always go at Jones when the lineal crap is utter nonsense and beyond me ! Spinks never beat a lineal champ either you fool but that might be too complicated for you so I will stay with the arguement here ! And check your facts about who HBO wanted Jones to fight : [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0Erh4RKbHE[/ame] here let me help you out since your clueless on the issue : Goto 2:04 DM David Telesco Reggie Johnson Bernard Hopkins Were the guys they wanted Jones to fight ! He beat 3 out the 4 ! But I know you didn't know who they were so they were easy opponents I'm not making excuses or making things up like you and your crew like to do .. I present facts .Know the diffrence !This isn't opinion its all irrefutable ! :bart
Agreed. I have a tough time picking a winner here. Hagler had more experience as Roy was a tad green at 160. Roy developed a ton of experience against lefties, but that came above 160. Roy was of course uber-gifted, in addition to being the physically larger man. What type of game-plan do you envision Hagler taking against Jones?
It's close; I see Jones being more mobile and avoiding Hagler's pressure for 12 rounds well enough while getting his own varied shots off, and even if he does get caught on the inside in spots or goes down, there's no guarantee Hagler is going to stop him right then and there.
At 160 Roy is still fast but also Hagler was on his way out against Leonard so that fight does not hold much importance to this fantasy matchup. Neither fighter fought anyone in the same style as the other but Roy may have come closer(Hopkins was green but closest to Hagler. A green Hops lol, still good win and solid contender). Can't recall a speedy guy Hagler fought in Haglers prime but I still favor Hagler. Either man could win and I'm a fan of both. I.E., the Del Valle punch is overrated. Anyone ever notice water spots in that fight and the Malinga fight lol? I think it was more of a slip but whatever, Roy still got up and dominated did he not? People forget that it was an accomplishment to win a rd or 2 against Roy which showed just how dominant Roy was. Just shows how he's damaging his legacy fighting on but that doesn't take away what he did in his prime. Ignore these chin checkers, they're haters when it comes to Roy and the bias against him only clouds their vision. Prime for prime it's very hard to favor one to beat Roy and they can't accept that so they spew useless garbage about him. I do love Roy but you can't deny his dominance and skill no matter who you are. Funny part that some Calz fans diss Roy but his resume was much worse and he chose a shot Roy over a young Dawson! Cherry pick! lol
Roy vs Hagler would of been interesting ..Jones speed and foot work vs Hagler;s aggression ..The thing is with Jones you had to smother him ..Easier said than done in his prime ..But like you im also a fan of both and would have loved to see a fight like that play out ..I wouldn't care who won and would just watch with great awe of both guys ! These chin checkers are just ignroant fools who try to elivate people like Calzaghe who like you said cherry picked an old Roy and who also admitted to avoding him when they were younger in his own book ..But they want to fool people into thinking he fought a muderers row of opponents ! I mean Reggie Johson only landed 49 punches on him ..Tell who could have ever done that against Johnson ? Not even Steve Collins ! I really though enjoy exposing their nonsense.
On the outside slight adv to the bigger, faster Rj, but he'd still be troubled by Haglers jab. He isnt koing iron chinned Hagler either. On the inside Hagler was better. Strength and powerwise pretty even. Hagler SD 15 Jones Jr
Hagler outboxed the best boxers and outbrawled the best brawlers. He could not be beaten when he was at his best. Roy, on the other hand, had a glass jaw. Compare to Marvin's steel mandible.
Roy would be too fast, too big. And prime Roy did not have a glass jaw and if you ever thought he did....then keep watching soccer you ****ing ***gots!
Jones outspeeds Hagler to a fairly boring UD. If Leonard could do it, so could Jones, who was faster at Middleweight and hit harder. He'd have enough to make Hagler respect him, and the rest would be JOnes playing matador and potshotting. Keith
