Even if you think Hagler won, you can't call it a robbery. Doing so makes it appear you never watched the fight.
Hmm, just finished reading through the comments. This is one of those all-time match-ups where I really feel based on styles that Roy just happens to have everything Hagler would have trouble with. The guy who would beat Roy would have to be able to put on seriously intense pressure and I don't feel Hagler brought the type of pressure that would be giving Roy trouble the way he would need to. I think Roy just has Hagler's number as far as this one goes.
Hagler was definitely capable of bringing that type of pressure. In his prime he was generally more of a methodical boxer-puncher, but against the right type of opponent he knew when to switch up the gears. He did so against the majority of his taller opponents and those he had difficulties boxing from range. Depends on the regulations of the era for me, really. Also, I'd wager on Hagler in a rematch, regardless. One of the best in that regard.
Good points. I guess that's why these imaginary match-ups don't make sense in the real world. Today, Hagler would probably be fighting at 154, as he'd be able to make weight the day before and gain back what he needed to overnight. Different world.
I think Roy is one of the hardest fighters in history to pick against in a hypothetical one-off fight. He was so gifted at his peak that it would almost certainly take anyone a second time around to get it right.
Wonder what the Petronelli's game plan would have been ? I mean Jones would have not just been dealing with Hagler's mind also the minds Petronelli's ..Man this would have been as good as Leonard Hagler ! So many ways to view a fight like this ..
Well, they would have had to bring the fight to Roy. I don't see any way Hagler wins this one boxing. Roy would have the speed/agility and size advantages to give Hagler hell all night on the outside if that's where the fight remained.
