I do feel that too many people say "wears Jones down" based on his more recent performances... Good luck wearing down Prime Jones, you would have to eat many shots in the process coming from angles you didn't think were possible, all that have the potential to KO you.

Go check out Hagler Hearns round 1 if you havn't seen it before. You think he could handle that type of pressure? I know styles make fights, and prime Jones creates time for himself, but you really believe he could 'counter and move'...

Maybe Roy Jones seemed unbeatable at middleweight because Marvin Hagler wasn't around anymore.
In a 15 round fight, Marv would have eventually gotten to Jones, who wouldn't be able to hold off Hagler over the distance.
Sure , Marvelous would have been busted up by the perfectly timed, slashing punches that Roy would be tossing. But Hagler would have made it a war, and that was Roys achilles heel. If he couldn't control the pace, Roy was much less effective.

Well, maybe because Hearns decided to trade with Hagler and he doesn't have nearly the same reflexes and foot speed of RJ?

Hagler, skilled pressure fighter, switch hitter, relentless and also has a lot of substance which jones didnt have.

Another thing before Jones got old he was a real puncher, at SMW and at MW he had murderous power.

RJJ beat a VERY YOUNG Hopkins. Not half the fighter he would become. That's it. Everyone is approaching this as if the RJJ from SMW and LHW were fighting Hagler. It's not, it's Roy at 160. Different fighter.

Hagler. RJJ never struck me as particularly battled hardened or tough.
Hagler would have trouble early but would catch up with him late on.
Jones was one of the best athletes ever to box and a fine tactician but lacked the technical skills that Hagler had. He was not just a very, very hard man but also a fantastically skilled technical fighter.

Hagler would make Jones trade with him...he would be in his face all the time, he would take punches so he could land one big one. Different era's, a lot of the boxers today I doubt would last in that era...

You're out of your ****ing mind. Hagler lost to a welterweight, went life and death with another welterweight in Hearns and Duran gave him a good fight. The draw with Vito was no fluke. What welterweight comes up and takes Toney's or Hopkin's title, or even comes anywhere close to challenging RJJ? On what day does Vito Antefuermo give Roy a tough fight, or seriously threaten a prime Toney or Hopkins? Hagler is damn near as overrated as Pryor, and for the same reason. He looks mean.

Roy takes him out like he's nothing, Hagler fades back to contender status, everyone yells at Roy for not taking the 'tough' fights.

Hopkins, Toney, Ruiz etc and so on. But of course Hagler would easily take a heavyweight title, since he's so tough :patsch

You know why he was never battle tested? Because he was THAT good. He didn't even have to try hard. Just show up. His raw talents were off the charts. Prime RJ would win fights on raw talent alone.
