I think its pretty obvious who wins the fight... the real question should be whether Collins loses by UD or KO/TKO. I voted KO/TKO (as you can see because the TS has taken the time to make the poll public, the way it always should be ) because I think Hagler likely stops him in a 15 round fight & might stop him in a 12 round fight (wouldn`t bet big on that one tho, Collins had a great chin & was tough as ****) :good
Collins was hurt a few times throughout his career as well as that early instance. Eubank had him in bad trouble with a single lead-right, Kalambay staggered him with an uppercut and McCallum had him reeling around in the mid rounds. he did recover admirably and had excellent overall durability, but no Wayne McCullough. I'd expect him to maybe get rocked\put down a few times, rather than KO'd by Marvin, on the way to losing a slightly more competitive Hamsho 1 sort of bout.Collins was a huge middle and stronger than Marv, who likely wouldn't get too involved physically or offensively until he's established his movement and jab.
Collins gets pummeled by his idol. You can see it now; Hamsho repeated. The first one I mean. And that's not overrating Hagler, nor underrating Collins. Let's face it, he was a man designed to absorb Hagler's full arsenal and that, he would.
I liked Collins for his attitude,he was a real tough guy. However Hagler's in another class, and pounds out a wide UD.
Crap, that's a young Smoger reffing the fight, isn't it? Weird to see him looking so young. Anyway, Hagler wins and lays a beating on Collins along the way.
always thought Hagler looked scared to engage Hamsho in that first fight incidentally. He made damn sure he kept it an outside jab fight until hamsho's face was hanging off.
i have always thought of the first hamsho fight as one of my favourite hagler displays for he boxed really well and put a skillful beating on hamsho
