Marvin doesn't need to make weight anymore, but he's also not allowed to bulk up much beyond 160. He can't use any training techniques that he didn't have available to him when he was active.

    How does he do against:

    Shot Holyfield
    John Ruiz
    Rydell Booker
    Hasim Rahman x 2
    Dominick Guinn
    Samuel Peter x 2
    Fres Oquendo

Assume that modern sanctioning bodies would permit a middleweight to fight heavyweights.

It's not that strange, is it? Back in the days when I posted regularly, this sort of thread wouldn't even raise an eyebrow.

Things have become too normal around here these days...

John Ruiz doesn't have a very good track record against middleweights.

What if Hagler is allowed to put on 40 lbs?

Funnily enough, the original picture hardly differs. He was at the perfect weight fighting at 160 lbs.

gonna be honest, don't see much success. he wasn't a huge middleweight and I doubt he puts on much weight. toney was naturally bigger and his style was much more suited to fighting larger opposition. hagler's wasn't.

He might still do ok, but by the time he would move up he was diminishing. He looked good with Hearns, but against Mugabi he was off a year and looked a little rusty and older. He was not meant to move up.

Why is it such of an incomprehensible notion to some people that a fighter might have an ideal weight in a class like middleweight and would have no reason to fight as a heavyweight?

Hagler gets his azz knokkked outt even if he is allowed 2 bulk as much as he wants . And what Toney had against his opponents was mostly not bulk , but flab . And that's y I rank Toney higher than Hagler p4p , despite that his 160-175 reign was not much impressive . It was impressive but not enough 2 justify his ranking . But Toney was impressive even in his worst showings considering his physical condition in them (lack of training , punch drunk , outsized , outgunned , outreached ) whatever u want , but D closest Toney came 2 getting stopped was @ 160 vs Reggie Johnson and even d deliberate egg punches that Johnson threw and landed and lowered Toney's guard while hurt , could not even deck him again or stop him from finally charging back . And I bet he was drained in that fight 2 .

He would probably not do as well for stylistic reasons.

Even so, he might shatter a few myths.

Occasionally, there is method to my madness. Some of the sillier threads like "Jimmy Young vs. Valuev in Platform Shoes" came from years ago, and somebody resurrected them.

This one makes a lot more sense in a forum where some people would pick Bob Fitzsimmons over Hasim Rahman.
