He ducked Michael Spinks so instead of Marvelous Marvin Hagler, he should be Semi-Marvelous Marvin Hagler. What do you think??

Maybe Spinks ducked Hagler. Spinks won the gold medal at middleweight. Should have shrunk down. His final title defense before moving up he weighed 172. PUT DOWN THE BOX OF TWINKIES MICHAEL!!!!!!

Nonsense. Hagler was one of the few smart ones to stay in his division.

I think you should go back to thinking up more mythical HW threads because you missed the mark here by miles

I don't think you can say someone is ducking the champion in a higher weight class.

That said, if Hagler's resume is missing something, it is a world title in a second division. The resume checks off all of the other boxes (lengthy reign, title defenses against strong contenders, consistency etc).

But when you really stop and think about it, it is kind of shocking how rare it is for an ATG to only fight in a single division without trying for a second world title. Carlos Monzon is one of the other few to do so.

ATGs overwhelmingly end up caving to that insane competitive lust for conquest. Some are brilliantly successful in additional weight classes: SRR, SRL, Bob Fitzsimmons, Emile Griffith. Others fail: Jose Napoles, Kid Gavilan, Winky Wright. Plenty of guys had mixed results, like Wilfredo Gomez or even Spinks himself.

So I guess Hagler's decision to remain at 160 lbs. is such a rarity that observers generations later can look back on his career and read their own conclusions into it.

Is this a response to claims Robinson ducked heavier fighters?

This thread is a joke, one thing's for sure he would have carved up Jake Lamotta like a Thanksgiving turkey, or should I say like he did Alan Minter?

That was after he ducked Mancini. Marvin "BOOM-BOOM" Hagler was forced to find a new moniker, Marvelous at ducking. Damn ducker.

Absolutely. Imagine fighting LWs, WWs and JMWs without stepping up to fight a LHW. I read an article that quoted his management saying that he wasn't interested in Tyson either.

It's obvious that Hagler was a massive *****
